A/N: Submitted for the Debt theme on the Jellicle Moon drabble contest. This was the original version before trimming to 250 words.
Such an easy mark. These wretched humans of Victoria Grove had left a window open for the night to let the cold air in. The ginger tom slinked inside. He found the target immediately, a small chest not ten feet away across the room. He lifted open the lid and started shuffeling around it's contents, looking for the prize among the cereal so to speak.
"Hey! What are you doing in my house?" meowed a tiny voice. Macavity turned to find small calico not 6 moons old.
He snorted. "I do as I like," he said and turned back to the task at hand. Her pathetic mews would never be heard by the humans before he was done.
Suddenly he felt a sharp pain. The calico had came up and bitten the tip of tail. "Impertinent kit!" He raised his paw and brought it down upon her, knocking the wind out of her as she tumbled several feet away. He stalked up to her as she tried to get to her feet. "Now you'll learn what happens when you mess with Macavity," he said unsheathing his claws.
"Get away from my sister!" yelled a second voice. A young calico tom rushed into the room and rammed into Macavity's side, pushing him away.
Mac quickly recovered. "You fool!" he growled and struck the tom across the face. He loomed over the tom and grabbed him by the shoulders with his claws, ready to drag them across his flank.
"No, leave him alone! Please!" the female cried. Macavity growled and dug his claws in deeper causing the tom to cry out. "Please, we'll do anything!" she pleaded with desperation and fear.
Macavity stared at her with cold eyes for a few moments before asking, "Have you ever heard of a tribe called the Jellicles?"
