I've got a short angsty Sasu x Fem!Naru one coming up and maybe a yaoi ItaNaru one (it's been hanging for a while so...) oh and maybe I'll write a longer SasuNaru one (cos if I have one for ShikaNaru, it'd be mean to not have one for SasuNaru too) and I'm going to try writing a fanfic for another anime (maybe Kuroko's Basketball?) okay. end of update. The Better Genius
Naruto sees everything. It's not a bloodline, rather just pure genius. As soon as he sees a jutsu, he is able to analyze and take the jutsu apart
When he was young, Naruto realised there was no need for geniuses in Konoha. Konoha had produced their fair share of geniuses, something that people were envious of. Geniuses were revered everywhere, but Naruto realised that all the geniuses in Konoha had ended badly. Perhaps it was a jinx or a curse, but one thing Naruto knew for sure: Geniuses rarely have a happy ending.
Orochimaru of the Sannin, one who was considered a genius in the legendary team seven. He had power and skills, he was a genius however much people try to cover it up. Yet however clever he was born, at the end of the day, he was but a traitor. His genius had made him mad. In the end, he is but a pitiful man, chasing after a hopeless dream
Itachi Uchiha, one of the last members of the once prestigious Uchiha clan. Because he was too young and too easily influenced, he had been taught that he was a weapon by Danzo. Naruto had overheard the Uchiha Massacre plan by incident, and he pitied Itachi. Itachi had truly become a weapon, a genius shinobi, killing his clan for the sake of the village. No doubt he still suffered, because as a genius, he would be a weapon all his life.
Kakashi Hatake, son of the White Fang and a well-known genius. Because no matter how much of a genius he was, no matter how early he became Jounin, he was incapable of saving his teammates and ended in a downward spiral. Becoming an ANBU taking suicide missions and living in the shadow of his deceased teammate, he is only an empty shell.
Minato Namikaze, the Yondaime Hokage, a true genius. He was a bright light, but one that extinguished way too fast. Indeed he was powerful, but in the end, he was but a hero died too young. It was for the good of the village, but one cannot deny the fact that for all his genius, he is now but a deceased hero in the Shinigami's stomach.
Naruto did not want the title genius. Take just one look at the legendary Sannin and you'll understand. Jiraiya is much better off compared to his genius teammates. Sure, he was not exactly acknowledged as a genius but he is one of the strongest shinobi around now. This only shows that geniuses have harder lives.
There is no need to be a genius to succeed as a shinobi, Naruto tells himself, and he spends the next few years of his life a bullheaded blonde. When he is made Jiraiya's pupil, he is grateful. He knows that in actual fact, he was not similar to Jiraiya. He was closer to Orochimaru, but no one wants to be thought of as similar to a traitor of the village.
Beneath all his foolish promises to bring Sasuke back, beneath the facade of anger towards Sasuke betraying Konoha, he is gleeful. Once again, he had cheated fate. Once again, he had cheated everyone into believing that he was nothing like Orochimaru. That was why as Sasuke pushed a chidori through his chest, he is glad that he purposefully missed Sasuke's heart. This time, he'll be the victim, and Sasuke the traitor. This time, he will prove to be the better genius.
