Rain

It was raining outside and she couldn't for the life of her see outside for more than a foot, couldn't and wouldn't see a black silhouette on her front porch, would never consciously lay eyes on the hem of a dark cloak whipping out of sight.

It was raining outside and no one could find her.

It was raining outside and she was safe.

It was raining outside and she could feel the warmth of her husband's hand in hers, could feel a shiver of pleasure run up her spine as he ran a finger up and down the length of her cheek, keeping her company as she sat vigil by the window, watching the rain.

It was raining outside and she could hear the cheerful gurgle of her son as he played with a model broomstick on the plush carpet below her.

It was raining outside and she loved them.

It was raining outside and the pounding of the water and the crack of thunder drowned out the noises she would have heard: the creak of a floorboard, the breath of an intruder.

It was raining outside and death was drawing closer with ever tick of the second had on the grandfather clock in the corner.

In was raining outside and a flash of green light emitted from a man's wand.

It was raining outside and she heard a soft thud from downstairs, as though something heavy had crumpled to the ground.

It was raining outside and she looked evil straight in the eye.

It was raining outside and Harry Potter began to cry, thoroughly alone.
