Chapter: 1
Sesshomaru's P.O.V.
The loneliness that swept over me was dreadful. Every since Naraku was killed a few months back it had made its presence known. It was very bothersome that the jewel is still not complete in the end. It had shattered again after that vile creature was disposed of. I could feel the joy and nervousness Inuyasha's small group felt. They weren't really just a group of people with the same goal anymore. They were more like a family now. The joy was most likely from still having a reason to stay together but nervous about what other demons now had a peace of the jewel.
Thinking of Inuyasha having a family now brought on a new wave of loneliness. This new emotion was really starting to disturb me. I never really felt anything before. I was usually able to lock everything away. It was much harder now to do that. I blame it on this pregnancy. If I hadn't let a moment of loneliness get the best of me, three months ago, I wouldn't be having this problem. Now I have lost all control of myself. I got hungry a lot and the craving were maddening. The tiredness was irritating. I had to stop more often but Rin didn't seem to mind. She loved to explore.
Speaking of Rin she was over joyed with the news of my pregnancy. She couldn't wait for my pup to be here. Joken on the other hand, squawked annoyingly. I think he was expecting me to get rid of it. Yes I had thought about it but when it came down to it, I couldn't.
The pup's father was a full blooded panther demon. He was appealing to the eye but I had only wanted one night of pleasure. I wasn't interested in mating with him for life.
Placing my hand on my belly, over the small bump that was forming, my thoughts drifted back to Inuyasha. He had a hard life as a pup. His friends didn't care that he was a hanyou though. Now that I think about it I have no idea why it mattered to me if he was a hanyou or not. He is still my brother. Hanyou's were definitely unique. They were weaker than full demons but stronger than humans. They also seemed to have the biggest hearts.
Sadness and regret washed over me.
I should have been there for him. I shouldn't have let my anger at father for leaving my mother and mating with Izayoi, get the best of me. Inuyasha had suffered for it in the end. Thinking about it I couldn't really blame my father for leaving my mother. She never loved him anyway and was downright cruel. She had even once told me that she had only wanted a pup out of it. My father was a strong fearsome demon and would make a strong fearsome pup.
Nighttime
Rin and Jaken are now sleeping next to Au-Un as I am looking at the stars.
Soon smoke was clouding my view. Oddly enough I seen it before I smelt it. Smoke in this amount was no camp fire. I decided to investigate.
In a village near by, the villagers was standing around a burning hut. It struck me as odd that they were just watching it burn, instead of trying to extinguish the fire. I tipped my nose into the air to try figuring out what was going on. My eyes widened as I smelled a half demon child inside.
'Are they truly trying to burn the child alive?'
Angry I thought about slaughtering them all but controlled my temper and calmly walked past the humans into the burning hut. The half demon was tied to a pole. Tears were running down his face as he coughed from the smoke. Soon I was next to him and cut him free. His eyes were watering so bad I knew he couldn't see me. I quickly picked him up and sat him on my hip. He clung to me, trying desperately to breath. I had to move quickly, the wood was starting to quake. As soon as I made it out through the door, the hut clasped.
The humans had weapons raised for protection as they glared at me. I sent a glare right back and was satisfied in the smell of fear that arose. The child was still upset so I decided not to frighten him more by slaughtering these miserable humans that tried to kill him. I quickly noticed an old man and woman that looked relieved that I rescued the child. They must be the ones that were looking after him before these other humans got ahold of him. I set him down in front of them and nodded.
"Oh please my lord!" cried the old woman in desperation. "Please take care of him. We tried to protect him but we failed."
I looked at them bewildered. They want me to take and raise this child?
I growled as I heard some of the villagers protest.
"Silence!" I growled and was pleased as they ran for their lives.
I looked at the still crying child that was clinging to the old man. I could smell the fear on him. He was about eight years old and was dressed in ragged cloths that were barley covering his small body. Almost like slave's cloths. It was probably all the couple could afford. There cloths didn't look much better. He was dirty, thin and very pail.
I wasn't there for Inuyasha. That was a mistake. I refused to make the same mistake twice.
I crouched down in front of the child and asked, "Would you like a home where you are loved and do not have to fear of being hurt?"
He was sniffling by now as he looked at me still clinging to the old man. He looked up at the old couple who smiled and nodded to him. He still smelled of fear but nodded when he looked back to me.
I opened my arms to him and slowly he let the old man go and came to me. I stood up with him in my arms and smiled reassuringly to the old couple. I was gone in a flash. It wasn't a long journey back to camp but he passed out in exhaustion in my arms.
Dawn was rising as I arrived. Rin had woken to Au-Un shifting in my direction.
"Rin pack your things we are heading to the next village," I spoke.
"Lord Sesshomaru what are you holding in your arms?" She asked innocently.
I crouched down and showed her the sleeping boy in my arms. I expected her to become jealous but she smiled warmly at him.
"I have a new brother?" She asked as she looked up at me.
"Yes," I replied.
She never asked about how I had found him. She could see the shape he was in and probably assumed I had saved him like I had her a few years ago.
Rin packed quickly as I stood and went to kick Jaken awake. It irritated me that Rin, a human could wake so easily but Joken slept on. What if there was danger? He would be dead.
It didn't take us long to get to the next village since we took to the air. Rin laughed and smiled in excitement as she recognized this village. I had saved this village from demons a year or so ago. Rin had friends her age here. We have stayed here often on our travels. The villagers respected me as there lord and protector. They gave me anything I wished. They have even healed and taken care of me on some occasions. As soon as we landed Rin ran off to play with the village children, while I went to talk to the leader of the village.
"My lord. How can we help you?" He asked bowing his head in respect.
"We need a place to rest and some clothes for this child," I said.
He peered at the boy in my arms as he started to shift and wake up. I could smell his fear when he saw the humans.
"We have built you a house since the last time you were here. I know it's not much but we have attached a bathhouse onto it," said the headmen.
"It will do fine," I said in reassurance, "He need cleaned up as well."
"Yes of course! Men get the bath ready! Girls prepare our finest food for our lord and his children!" Spoke the headmen loudly making the other scramble.
We were lead to the house and the boys fear lessoned as I went into a bathhouse and we were alone. The house was a good size as was the bathhouse.
I set the boy down on his own feet and he looked up at me with big eyes. I knelt down beside the tub with the boy in front of me. I took off his rags and searched him for injuries. When I was satisfied I lifted him up and sat him in the bath. I scrubbed his little body clean and he just stared at me with hope in his eyes. When I was finished I lifted him out and dried him gently with a towel. Once finished I studied him. He had long white hair down to his bottom with brown eyes and little dog-ears on top of his head. He was a dog demon like Inuyasha and I.
Finally he spoke for the first time.
"Are you my mommy now?" he asked.
I looked at him thinking.
'Do I look like a girl that much? Well I am kind of taking the roll of a mother aren't I. I am the uke and carrying a pup. My child will call me mommy too. If I am going to raise him then I might as well raise him as my own child.'
I decided to let him call me mommy since that would be what my child called me. Father just would not do.
I nodded and asked, "What is your name?"
He answered, "Ginkatsu."
"Silver victory huh?" I smiled.
He nodded to me the hint of a smile showing.
'He still fears I will abandon him or kill him.'
I leaned down and kissed his forehead and a crescent moon like mine appeared, marking him as my child. He gasped as the bond it created swept threw him. Reaching up he felt it with his finger. A big smile spread across his face and then he lunged at me giving me a big hugged. I smiled and placed my hand on his back soothingly.
Jaken came in and squawked at the boy's nudeness.
I growled in annoyance as Ginkatsu jumped.
"Jaken," I said sternly, "Go fetch me some cloths for Ginkatsu."
"Y-yes my lord," squeaked Jaken and hurried away.
As soon as he return with the requested clothes I helped him put them on, and tied the sash to hold his clothes closed. They were silk and a sky blue color. I combed through his wet hair to get all the snarls out with my long fingers and then we left the bathhouse.
Rin came over as soon as she saw us and I said, "Ginkatsu, this is Jaken and Rin. Rin, Jaken this is Ginkatsu."
They bowed to each other and Rin asked, "Would you like to play with me?"
Ginkatsu looked to me for permission. "If mommy says I can."
I smiled and nodded and then they both ran off. Rin was introducing him to the village children and soon they all began to play together.
Jaken and I sat in front of the hut given to us and watched them play in the road.
We stayed for three days and began to travel again. Rin and Ginkatsu became good friends and Ginkatsu got Rin even calling me mommy. For some reason I now felt proud of the name. It must be the hormones from this pregnancy.
We had left the village four days ago now. Rin was sleeping and Ginkatsu has run off somewhere. I have learned he loves to explore just as much as Rin. He wanders much farther than Rin but never out of sent distance.
Sighing I stopped. All this traveling has made me tired again so I set up camp by a stream. I sat under a tree in the shade, watching the water when Ginkatsu came running up to me.
"Mommy! Mommy!" he called.
I could smell the flowers before he gave them to me. They smelled so nice to me now days. I smiled and hugged him. Rin was woken by his excited yelling and got down off Au-Un.
"Those are some lovely flowers!" smiled Rin.
"Thank you!" said Ginkatsu proudly.
Rin's stomach growled and she laughed at his bewildered face.
"My tummy is hungry. Want to catch some fish with me?" Rin asked him.
"I-I don't know how," said Ginkatsu bowing his head in shame.
"Don't worry!" Rin soothed. "Ill teach you! It will be fun!" she said as she dragged him towards the stream.
It didn't take her long to teach him and soon we were all eating the fish that they caught. The rest of the day was filled with their laughter as they played and teased Jaken.
Night time came quick and while everyone was asleep, I was sat up thinking. I sensed a village a mile way when I stopped to make camp. I was startled when I heard a few girls screaming and crying. I was on my feet in an instance and racing off to investigate.
To my horror I saw about six men beating on two half demons girls in the village street. As soon as I saw a man razed a shovel, about to smash the smallest head in, I stepped in. I rushed forward and broke the man's shovel. All the villagers ran. The two hanyou children were both girls. I quickly scooped them up and took off back to camp. Neither one fought me. They just clung to me and were whimpering.
I set them down by the stream after making sure Rin and Ginkatsu were safe and still asleep. I nodded to Au-Un as I passed in thanks for protecting the children. They purred in reply.
After I set them down I said soothingly, "You are safe now. No one can hurt you here."
The youngest clung to her sister as the oldest tried to comfort her.
"I would like to take care of you if you will let me," I said softly.
They looked at one another in fear but nodded all the same, desperate to be protected. I leaned in and planted a soft kiss on each of their foreheads creating the bond with them. It calmed them instantly as crescent moon appeared.
"What are your names?"
"Fuyumi," stated the eldest, "This is Ai. My younger sister."
"Hello," I smiled at Ai. "How old are you Ai?"
"I'm six," She said proudly. "And Fuyumi is eight!"
I nodded in acknowledgment and took in there appearances. Both girls had blue hair, tied into a bun on top of their heads and dark black eyes. Their skin was almost golden from what I could see around the bruises littering their bodies. Their ears were what gave away there heritage. Their ears were pointy like mine but were tinged blue. They almost looked like wings. They were part dragon demon. Ai had a cut on her forehead and Fuyumi's nose was bleeding slightly. It was time to clean them up.
They bathed the best they could with what little I had with me. Unfortunately, I didn't have extra cloths for them so they had to put their dirty ripped ones back on.
While they were dressing I turned to see Rin and Ginkatsu sitting up looking a little sleepy but curious as to who the two girls were.
I beckoned them over and said, "Fuyumi, Ai. I would like you to meet Rin and Ginkatsu."
"Hello!" they all chirped.
"Wow! Are you guys' dragon demon?" asked Ginkatsu very curiously.
"Yes," said Ai as Fuyumi nodded.
"Where are your parents?" asked Rin
"They were killed a few years ago in the village we came from," spoke Fuyumi as Ai's eyes teared up.
Overwhelming sadness washed over me again. Half breads suffered so much. Most don't even make it passed childhood. For so many years I have been so wrong.
I was distracted when Ginkatsu said, "Its ok. My mother died too when I was very young. I'm not sure how. Granny never would tell me. She did tell me my dad died before I was born. I was going to die too and mommy saved me. He will be your mommy too."
He looked to me for reassurance so I nodded.
All of a sudden we heard the girl's tummy's growl in hunger. They blushed in shame and Rin took over.
"Come on Ginkatsu! They are hungry did you hear it?! Let's show them how to catch fish!"
They all laughed and caught the fish showing the girls how to catch them.
After they were fed I got them all to settle down to rest. I told myself that tomorrow we had to get the girls new clothes. The rags just would not do.
Morning
I woke up early being sick. Shockingly, Jaken woke up hearing me and held my hair back for me. When I was finished I realized my children were still asleep. I did not want to wake them so I took out two big blankets from the bag on Au-Un. I put Fuyumi and Ai in one and tied it to one side of Au-Un. Then I put Rin and Ginkatsu in the other and tied it to Au-Un's other side. Jaken took Au-Un's rains and followed behind me as we set out for the village. He was being very quiet and that was quite surprising.
I sensed something was wrong in the village so as soon as my children woke up I told them to stay down. The village people were miserable people. They were snappy and would not sell me clothes.
I heard a whip and two cries as I was leaving. Au-Un flew up and stayed high so my children would be out of harm's way, while I ran to the fields. A man was whipping two little boys. One was a full demon and the other a half demon. The full demon looked to be eight years old and his brother five. Outraged, I caught the whip when it came down again and whipped the man back.
'How dare him!' I seethed to myself.
I was so angry that I wanted to kill him!
I turned back to the crying boys and gathered then in my arms and flew up to Au-Un. Once seated on Au-Un I sat the two boys in front of me. Their wounds healed quickly but as we were flying away a pitchfork was lodged into my back.
As I cried out in pain I thought, 'That hurt. How had I not sensed that coming? Are my senses being dulled by the pregnancy?'
I reached back and yanked it out, turned to glare at the man that tried to take me down. He had a smirk on his face until I raised the pitchfork and threw it back at him, running it threw him.
Landing a ways away from that village we landed and set up camp.
"Are you two alright?" I asked trying to hide my pain.
They nodded and introductions were made. My other children explained there story to the boys and once asked if they wanted to be part of this family too, they agreed eagerly. Once I kissed their foreheads I laid down to rest. I was in such pain.
'Why am I not healing?' I wondered as I listened to the children get to know each other and play.
I learned the youngest boy's age was indeed five and he was a half panther demon. His name was Akio. He had long black hair that went half way down his back and had little cat ears on top of his head. His older brother's name was Yukio and he was full panther demon. His age was ten and he had long black hair that went down to his bottom. I guess I was a little off when I thought he was eight earlier. He kept it pulled back into a low ponytail. Both of their eyes were dark green and very soulful. Their skin was almost as white as mine. Neither boy would tell what happened to their parents.
I knew something was wrong when I started having cramps.
'What is happening to me?' I groaned in my head from pain.
For three days I lay on my side sweating, crying, heaving, and screaming. On the fourth day the cramps lessoned and I was covered in sweat. I had a fever and had become week from pain and exhaustion. The wounds on my back were still not healing.
'It must have had a poison on the pitchfork to kill demons,' I thought.
I had to summon Jaken to help me get my armor off and my swords. They were now too heavy for me to carry.
"Come children. We must continue to the next village," I said.
We started walking a slow walk to the next village.
'They need clothes,' I told myself as I breathed threw the pain.
My children were silent as they walked behind me next to Au-Un. They were worried. I could smell and taste it in the air. I tried my best to hide my pain but I was failing miserably.
As soon as we reached the village, I smelled Inuyasha.
'Great,' I moaned as I realized this was Inuyasha's village.
"Hurry children," I gasped. "We must get you clothes and leave."
I got the clothes and some extras. My children followed behind me.
The cramps were getting worse as I walked and my vision was going black. I was falling and the last thing I heard was the cry of "Mommy!" from my children.
Inuyasha's P.O.V.
'Is that Sesshomaru I smell? It can't be. I haven't seen him in months and he knows this is my village,' I thought as I got up from my seated position.
I come out of Kaede's hut to see Sesshomaru walking away from a clothing shop. Six children, Jaken and Au-Un were following him.
'Odd,' I thought, amused.
I sniffed the air. It smelt like poison coming off from Sesshomaru. It wasn't Sesshomaru's poison.
To my surprise he passed out and the children cried "Mommy!"
"Mommy?" I asked in wonder out loud.
Kagome, Kouga her mate, Sango, Miroku, Shippo, Kilila, and I started quickly walking towards them.
The children huddled back into Au-Un looking frightened at us. The air wreaked the smell of fear. Kagome and Sango got the children to come with them to Kaede's hut while I carried Sesshomaru in. I lay him on a mat and Kaede quickly started tending to his wounds.
"His wounds are full of poison," I said as I helped her roll him onto his side.
Jaken squawked at us and said, "Be careful half bread! My lord has been pupped!"
For some reason that made me jealous.
'Who pupped my Sesshomaru?' I thought. My eyes widened. 'Where did that thought come from? Do I really consider him mine?'
His wounds were still bleeding and Kaede said, "We will have to scorch them closed."
Something caught my eye. I noticed the bulge in Sesshomaru's stomach move and pointed it out to Kaede. She poked and prodded his belly as Sesshomaru moaned in agony in his sleep.
Sighing she said "Sesshomaru's child is already dead from the poison."
To my horror Sesshomaru had to wake up just in time to hear the last part. What completely threw me for a loop was he broke down in front of us. He cried as he covered his face with his hands.
'What happened to Sesshomaru? Is the pregnancy affecting him this much that he can't control his emotions anymore?'
When his children started to whimper and cry it distracted me from my thoughts. The crescent moons on their foreheads started to glow from the distress coming off of Sesshomaru. The children were shipped to another hut with Kagome, Sango, Shippo, and Kilila.
'Hopefully they can get them calmed down.'
Kaede said, "The child needs to come out."
To all our horror Sesshomaru just ripped his stomach open splattering blood everywhere and it covered him.
"Hold him!" commanded Kaede in a panic.
Miroku, Kouga and I quickly jumped into action and held him down as Kaede took out the pup. Sesshomaru wouldn't stop kicking and clawing. We soon realized he was losing his mind in grief so Kaede forced an herb down his throat to calm him. His strength left him slowly and his eyes glazed over. We slowly released him and he lay calmly starting at the wall.
Kaede put her hand on his shoulder and said, "You'll be okay child."
Sesshomaru slowly blinked and his gaze drifted to me.
'What are you thinking?' I thought as he looked at me.
A minute after his gaze landed on mine, I his eyes drifted close.
I panicked a little until Kaede said, "It's alright he is giving in to the loss and exhaustion."
"Boys. Do this old lady a favor and clean up? I don't want him smelling all the blood when he comes to," said Kaede.
'Yay,' I grunted.
It was a chore but we all cleaned up the hut and Sesshomaru. Kaede tented to his wounds, cleaning and burned the ones on his back closed. When she was done I covered him up gently.
I wanted to take care of him. I wanted him as mine.
The children were allowed back in the hut and clung to Sesshomaru like a life line. They were frightened I could smell it.
Sesshomaru's P.O.V.
I woke up in pain. It was dark outside and I saw my children sleeping by me.
Inuyasha was wake and said, "You have been sleeping for three days. Are you feeling better?"
'Inuyasha? Why are you being nice to me?' I thought confused.
I slowly nodded and looked at the hand I was holding. It was his. He squeezed mine gently, and after thinking about it I did it back weakly.
'I feel so tired,' I thought as I drifted off to sleep again.
I was made to stay in the hut, for three more days and then was allowed to sit outside the door.
My children were playing in front of the hut close enough so I could watch them. They were also afraid to let me out of their sight; afraid someone would take me away.
My breasts were so full of milk they hurt. I don't even notice when they leak anymore. It's been a week now that we have stayed here in the village.
All of a sudden a woman came tarring through the village. Some village people were calling her crazy and some were calling her possessed. She wasn't ether, just desperate. She saw me and threw herself on the ground beside me. I didn't even bother moving.
Inuyasha saw this and was going to make her leave me alone but Kagome stopped him.
The woman grabbed my face basically screaming at me to help her. When she realized that I nodded; she calmed down. She opened my shirt and brought the half demon baby, she had hidden, to my nipple. I had smelled him. I have no idea how she knew I was making milk. News must have traveled fast about my pup and about me rescuing the children. He latched on and drank his fill. He did not drink much.
I looked up and saw my two boys, Akio and Yukio looking at me pleadingly. They wanted to help relive my pain and being panther demons they loved milk. I nodded and they crawled forward. As they drank the pain began to lesson. They drank until I was dry and then curled up beside me and fell asleep.
I looked at the mother and realized she had died already. I knew she was dying. I could smell death on her. She was at peace knowing her baby was going to make it.
Inuyasha and his friends took her body away to give her a burial.
I looked at the baby about one month old and kissed his forehead. He smiled a toothless smile at me as I watched a crescent moon appear on his forehead. We both then fell into a peaceful sleep.
