"Tell me you're not serious..."
The words caught in the youkai prince's throat, even as he tried tor force them out past the sob that wanted to break free. He was standing there, tears staining his cheeks, facing his worst nightmare. His lover for the past three years, telling him that it was over. Genjo Sanzo, walking out of his life for good.
"Tell me you're not serious, Sanzo..." He repeated as he reached for the blond's hand. Said priest retracted his hand at the last moment, bringing forth a whimper of pain from the demon standing across from him. "Just give me another chance..."
"It's not enough," Sanzo muttered as he lit the marlboro that dangled between his lips. When he exhaled the smoke, he settled his hard, violet gaze on the shaking form that was Kougaiji. "Things just aren't working out anymore. You're not here."
"But I am!" He protested as he once again reached for the priest. Though, this time when Sanzo pulled away, Kougaiji lost his footing and hit the ground that lay between them. This was the straw that broke the camel's back, as he did not hide the sob that wracked his body. "Please don't leave me, Sanzo... we've been through so much..."
A 'tch' sound was heard up ahead, and Kougaiji barely managed to lift his head to see the scowl setting in on his face. "Just look at yourself. You're supposed to be a prince. A leader of Youkai and yet you're groveling at the feet of a human. You're pathetic." He failed to mention, or even remember, the nights he spent by Kougaiji's side, blubbering like a damn baby when he feared he'd never wake up.
This wasn't like him. This wasn't his Sanzo; he had to be affected by someone or something... Kougaiji's first thought was Nii, but he had been silenced in the past year. The lunatic simply sat in the temple ruins where his prodigey fell, clinging to that stupid stuffed rabbit for hours on end.
He thought that maybe Yaone, or Zakuro had done something to him. Even the bishop Hazel could have brain washed him. He was searching frantically for something, for anything to hold onto so that he wouldn't have to face the reality that his beloved Priest had changed, and that he was walking away from him for good.
"...had enough of this shit."
Kougaiji snapped out of his trance and looked more fully at Sanzo. Clasped in his gloved hand was the pendant that Kougaiji had given to him on their second anniversary. The beautiful violet and crimson braid hung from a simple silver chain. The demon's eyes were wide as he looked from the item to the face of the one holding it. "Sanzo..."
"We're through, Kougaiji. Goodbye..."
He dropped the pendant into the dirt before the youkai prince and turned on his heel to leave. He wasted no time, and before Kougaiji could muster up the strength to go after him, he was already disappearing into the horizon. The tan fingers of Kougaiji reached out shakingly to pick up the pendant. It was true then... It really was over.
Clutching the necklace to his chest, the once wise, powerful and highly respected fire demon doubled over and released a cry of pure anguish and heartbreak.
