She stood knee-deep in the chilly water, light from the moon reflecting off her dark skin. He stood, leaning against the rock with his shoes off, watching her. He crossed his arms and called to her, "I don't see why I have to be here. You're the one that's a waterbender." He kicked the sand, bored. "Why can't you practice during the day? It's," a cold wind blew past and he shivered, "warmer."

She turned around and narrowed her eyes at him. "If I'm ever going to be a truly great waterbender, I have to practice a lot. And when the moon is out is the best time for that."

He smiled at her. "You're already a great waterbender," he said. "Remember the 'incident' at the North Pole? Had the Sun not come out at that time, you would have had me beaten."

She blushed. "It wasn't that impressive."

He snorted. "Wasn't that impressive? Please, you had me beaten in only a few moves."

She laughed now. "Same with you afterwards." She turned back around and started making the water rise up and down, up and down, until a large wave came crashing on the shore.

He jumped back. "What are you trying to do? Soak me?"

She smirked. "Yes. It needs to be silent for me to truly do well waterbending, and that's the only way I could think of to get you to be quiet."

"You could have asked," he muttered, leaning back against the rock again.

"And since when has that ever worked?" she asked disdainfully, though there was a friendly gleam in her eyes. He frowned, and she sighed, "I'm joking."

He nodded, still a bit upset. "Fine."

She dropped the water she was bending back into the lake and started heading back to shore. He raised an eyebrow as if to ask why, and she answered, "The Sun's going to be coming out in a few hours, and we need to get some sleep."

He nodded and handed her a towel. "Thanks," she said, taking it from him. Then, ever so softly, she kissed him on the lips. He stared at her in shock. She didn't seem to notice, though, and she started off back to camp. "Come on!" she called over her shoulder, a smile forming on her face.

He followed her slowly, then started to speed up until he caught up with her, and his hand slowly clasped hers. They both blushed slightly, though it was too dark to see it.

And yet, even to this day, he thought. You still have me beaten in only a few moves.
