A Requirement of Fire
He'd cast the burning spell, and he knew full well he was going to burn with it.
He didn't mind. The others were running wildly, searching for a way out. They were trapped in the room full of junk. In the fire. The room of requirement it may be, but it wouldn't change into an exit while they were still inside. It didn't work that way.
And that was its flaw, because Fiendfyre was so powerful a curse that even the magic in the room could be undone by it.
And the lives of Potter and his friends who'd caused the Dark Lord such trouble.
The fire licked his skin and it was hot. It drew away with a hiss, leaving blistered skin. He saw Draco as well. Draco, his face ashen, searching for somewhere to hide. Draco, who'd thought he'd ruled the Slytherins, who'd thought he was the Dark Lord's favourite.
But he, Crabbe, knew better. The Malfoys were all expendable now, all nothing, and once the Dark Lord heard of Potter's death, he would be recognised and honoured beyond compare.
Torturing Mudbloods and Muggle-lovers was a small thing compared to this.
His sacrifice would be a small price to pay for that little bit higher pedestal.
And he didn't mind paying it.
