Is This Goodbye?

Was this goodbye? Rin thought as she stood silently at the edges of the village, now her permanent home. Her brown eyes looked up at the tall figure, regal and clothed in white, the kind of white which always had made her wonder how he ever managed to keep it so impeccably clean every time. Yet such thoughts were not on her mind, as there was one question, one question she had been longing to ask from the time he had her told to stay with Kaede, Inuyasha and his friends. For a long time, Rin had wanted to ask him, but the sight of his face, his golden eyes looking down at her made her nervous and shy, leaving her to simply watch him come and go without so much a word about where he was going, and with no warning of when he would return. Of course the little girl wanted nothing more but to follow him wherever he went, just as they had done before. However Rin knew that this would not last forever, and when this realisation hit upon her, she became scared, scared that he would turn his head and never look back.

Small hands gripped the orange and white kimono she always wore while her face looked to the ground, hiding it from his view.

"Does Rin have to say goodbye, forever?" she finally asked, her voice soft and small.

Moments passed until she could not take it any longer, and she raised her head to see if he had already left. To her surprise, Sesshoumaru still stood there, still as regal and mysterious as when she first met him all those years ago.

He walked up to her, and for a while he did not speak, choosing to eye the girl who still had her hands gripping tightly at her clothes. Reaching out his hand, he touched the top of her head, saying,

"No, not forever," and then stepping back, he started to glow, his form vanishing into a sphere of light, leaving Rin to stare into the sky with a smile on her face, and a warm feeling in her heart.
