Hi all! This is just a small piece I've wrote for a challenge. The topic is "silence". So I thought about silence, how to describe it in a story... and I came up, describing the silence one can feel, and how fast this silence can turn into something different... anyway. I guess I suck with explanation, just read and enjoy!!

Balanced

It wasn't as if the world had gone quiet. No, there still was the chirping of birds, the wind that rustled the leaf and all the other sounds you can hear when you are in a forest.

It was more him who couldn't hear it any more, as he stood perfectly still looking at the crumbled body of his brother.

He felt his heart throb painfully against his ribcage, his breath hitching as he willed himself to move forward.

This was his fault. They shouldn't have split up. He already had had a bad feeling about it. He crouched down and turned the body of his sibling on his back. Cautiously and with shaking hands Dean checked for a pulse and withdrew with a gasp, as he felt the coldness of Sam's skin. That's when the eyes of his brother snapped open, revealing blood-red irises and an evil smirk: "Boooh!" Sam mocked, laughing coldly as he saw Dean scrambling backwards and fall as he attempted to back off.

The silence within him was gone suddenly; replaced by a crescendo of thoughts as the creature that looked like his baby-brother lunged at him, pinning him to the ground and punched him hard in the face.

Dean closed his eyes in anticipation, but before another blow hit him two loud blasts echoed through the forest, letting birds rise with loud screeches at the offending disturbance.

He felt the weight of the creature lift and warm hands that guided him into a sitting position, supporting his weight from behind, he let himself fall back against the chest of his brother and only then, as he came in contact with the soft but erratic rise and fall of Sam's chest and heard the whispered question: "Are you okay?", he felt the world drift back into balance.

It wasn't silent anymore; it wasn't loud anymore. It was as it should be…
