Mudlove

Chapter One

Malfoy strutted down the crowded Charms corridor. Stupid Flitwick had given him detention again. He looked around for Crabbe and Goyle but found himself alone with no one to complain to. "Great, just great," he muttered to himself getting more and more irritated as he strode towards the Slytherin common room. "Salazar!" he spat at the brick wall that spilt in two and moved apart to let him through.

Crabbe and Goyle leapt up from their chairs as he walked in but he ignored them and followed the passageway to his dormitory, hoping that Crabbe and Goyle hadn't followed him. Well worse for them if they did. He wanted to be alone all of a sudden. He sat down on his bed and laid back, his hands behind his head, deep in thought about his current situation. He was one of the most popular boys in Slytherin yet he was unable to find a girlfriend.

He rolled over and pounded his pillow angrily, imagining it was Harry's unworthy face. He paused for a moment and his mind wandered to Harry's friend Hermione, the smartest witch in their year. How could he have let himself fall for a Mudblood? There were many Slytherin girls that were acceptable but Draco felt nothing for them. There was something about that Granger girl that made him shiver and feel weak at the knees. Frustrated at himself he got off the bed and paced. He had to fall for the one person he couldn't have…

Hermione walked along the Transfiguration corridor talking animatedly with Harry and Ron. As they turned the corner the topic turned to Quidditch and Hermione lost interest. She thought over the homework they had to do and telling Harry and Ron she would see them later, she headed to the library to grab a couple of books for her Potions essay.

As Madam Pince, the librarian, stamped out her books she felt someone watching her. She turned around and scanned the room but did not notice the pair of grey eyes watching her through the bookshelf. She turned back to the desk but still had a feeling of unease in her stomach. As she left with her books she could have sworn someone was watching her but pushed it from her mind, determined not to be distracted or let her thoughts stray as they had been recently.

She turned right and her feet carried her along the familiar path to the common room. She had decided to drop the books off before joining Harry and Ron for lunch. As she dawdled along her mind wandered and she found herself thinking of him again. She knew she shouldn't, she knew he could never love her but she would not be deterred. He hated her but it did nothing to stop her mind wonder
