Tell me
Summary: Lily and James get a detention with Dumbledore. What shall happen?

-James' Pov-
"Detention, Mr. Potter and Miss Evans!" I heard McGonagall yell at us. I didn't even know that Lily was following me.I was headed to the Whomping Willow to go on our monthly adventure.
"What, pray tell, were you two doing outside, after dark, when there is a war going on?" McGonagall asked us. A couple of feet beside me, Lily spoke up,
"Well, I saw James leave the common room, and I followed to see what he was doing"
"And you didn't think a teacher would've caught him?"
"Sorry Professor."Lily said, hanging her head. I cursed under my breath, I knew I forgot something
"What was that Mr. Potter?"
"Nothing" McGonagall sent me a unbelieving Look.
"You and Miss Evans will need to see Professor Dumbledore tonight for your detentions" McGonagall shooed us towards the castle. I knew I couldn't escape to the willow with her following us, and I knew that I would get a talking to from Sirius in the morning for missing a full moon. I made a mental note to buy Remus his favorite chocolate the next time we were in Hogmeade. A minute later, we were escorted to
Dumbledore's Office by McGonagall. She said the password and let us go foward into his office.
"Since it's too late to do your detention tonight," Dumbledore started to talk, "You will do your detentions tomorrow night, meet me here at 6:30, you may go now"
-So many hours later-
I started towards Dumbledore's for my detention. Now I wished that I brought the invisibility cloak with me last night. One, so I wouldn't miss the full moon, and Two, so lily and I wouldn't get detention tonight.
I got to Dumbledore's office to see Lily already there sitting in a chair waiting for me to come, so we could start our detention.
"For you detention, you will take down the portraits and wash the walls behind them. Now I have to go talk to the minister, you may start"
Dumbledore sent me a knowing look with the annoying twinkle in his eye before he left.
-Lily's POV-
For most of the detention, James and I worked in silence. I was surprised to see that James didn't ask me out for the whole time, I guess I would take my friends word on how he changed. A minute later I heard him chuckle to himself.
"What is it?" I asked, curious.
"This detention is weird"
"How so?"
"It's weird that we're washing the walls behind the portraits when most people wont see it"
"Thats true."
"But we have to do the detention anyway, regardless"
"Yeah"
For the next couple of minutes, I debated on asking him why he was out last night. I decided to, though he probally wouldn't tell me the truth.
"Hey James?"
"Yeah?"
"Why were you out last night?" James sighed, like he was debating if he should tell me or not.
"I would tell you, but I'm not sure if Remus would let me." He answered. "Oops" He added under his breath, like he said too much. He charmed some music to play, before I could ask any more, and I recognized the song. In the next five minutes, we were done with cleaning the walls, and the song was almost done playing. In that time, James walked up to me, and put his arms around my waist unexpectedly.
"Lily?" I looked up with a questioning look on my face, not trusting my voice
"Will you go out with me?"
"Yes" I said with a smile on my face

AN: okay readers, kill me for being so cliche. My friend Lily has practically read all of the Lily and James fanfictions, and I told her that I would write a one shot for her, so here it is. Sorry for the bad format, I don't really know how to format it right from WordPad. Hope you guys like it anyways!
