The room was frightening silent. The only sounds came from the keyboard strokes Cagalli made and ticking clock mounted on the wall in the center of the room. Cagalli was diligently revising up her speech for the next press conference. She had finished it last night, purposely to gain some rest the following day. However, due to the morning's events, she was forced to make some recent additions to address the incident.
Athrun sat, uncomfortably, not too far from her desk, on the office sofa. Leaning on his hand, he tried, unsuccessfully, to look indifferent to Cagalli. But his frequent and furtive glances towards her way went noticed. While typing the last revisions, she occasionally took a glimpse at him, expecting a reaction or explanation of some sort. What she noticed was his uncomfortable posture and his feigning indifference.
She quelled a knowing smirk, "Are you going to stay quiet the whole time?"
His head lifted at the sound of her voice. He attempted to form a sentence but could not bring the proper words.
She continued calmly, "You seemed to have a lot to say this morning, where is it now?" Cagalli remarked him with a reprimanding stare.
"I—he sputtered, sighing—I'm sorry." He resigned with his head low and slouched his sullen shoulders against the sofa.
Typing the last words of revisions, she finally met his face. "Athrun," her voice resounded with solemnity, however, they contained an edge of softness, "I'm not mad at you."
His ears seemed to perk at her statement and his emerald orbs seemed wider staring at her, astonished.
She held the same steely expression, "I expected better from you though."
Athrun's expression nearly went from surprise to indignant. "Your composure is usually more well-kept. Why did such a small matter anger you so much?"
Athrun's eyes nearly blazed, "How could you possibly say that? Those people were nothing short of perverts!" The similar anger seemed to reappear and showed evidently in his expression. Standing up, he marched closer to her.
Undeterred, Cagalli reasoned with an undertone of exasperation, "Athrun, they were legally published pictures of me and they were merely perusing a website that had them."
His stance went unfazed, "They were viewing your pictures with the wrong intentions!"
Her reply was automatic, "That still doesn't warrant your assault, Athrun. Their viewing pictures of me isn't a just cause for you to attack them like that."
Athrun's face was a mix of discomfort and indignance, "I didn't attack them, I gave them a few violent jabs."
She grimaced at her naïve fiancé's thinking, "Honey, the internet is a public domain, I can't control what they can see or can't see."
Defeated, he looked elsewhere. "I thought I would be defending your honor." His profile outlined the pout curved upon his lips.
Her eyes glistened with softness, a smile gently graced her lips. She rested her hand on his, grasping it warmly. Athrun stared at their hands and at her, his look filled with almost surprise. "I know you mean well. Thank you for defending my honor."
Her gratitude seeped in his heart, his face blank, he found trouble responding. He merely grasped her hand tighter. She smiled at his inability to respond.
"Look at it this way, at least, there are no nude pictures of me taken." She offered a consoling smile.
But his reaction was not one she expected again. His eyes narrowed dangerously and his expression darkened, "I'll kill them."
Cagalli winced uneasily.
A/N: Finals are over; I slowly got into reading some asucaga fics again. This is really spur of the moment and unedited because it's 315 AM and I'm lazy. I'll try to write some longer ones.
