Max was always alone.
"Move over loser!"
"Get out of my way!"
"How do you pass any of your classes? You're so stupid!"
He was always treated like a baby in his family.
"Maxy? Isn't it time for bed?"
"Don't forget to brush your little teeth!"
"Are you sure you can make your own lunch?"
All he wanted was a friend.
"Why can't I make friends?"
"I just need to talk to someone."
Until he met her.
"Hi, I'm Claire! I'm new here, and everyone keeps being a jerk to me. Could you help me?"
"Sure! I'm Max. We seem to have the same schedule.'
'Now I have a means of protection everywhere I go.'
Which sparked a new part of his mind.
"I know I can do this!"
"What did I do to make her like me?"
And then he learned her secret, and she his.
"I'm a Witch."
"I'm a wizard."
"Wow!"
But could it last, or was it too good to be true?
"Claire!"
"I-I can't be near you! My family's evil!"
"But you're not."
"I-I-I know, but they could hurt you."
Can they help each other be true to themselves?
"I don't need powers! I'm fine just being Max."
"I agree..."
