"What happened?" Hayato Gokudera asked as he came up to one of his classmates.
"He just went missing," the other said shrugging. " It's been three days. We don't know if he's dead or alive."
"Well, you can't just stand there," the silver haired guardian of the storm said as he narrowed his eyes. "Where did you last see him?"
"He was walking by the cafeteria then I think he went towards the field, he likes it there," the other student pouted and then nodded. "Yeah, someone saw him there. He usually comes back by nightfall but tonight, he didn't. I am worried. "
"Maybe he wanted to camp out," another suggested but Gokudera shook his head.
"Let me figure it out," Gokudera said with a frown. " So first, from your room to the cafeteria and then the field right?"
The students nodded. "Do you think you'll find him? He's pretty hard to find."
"I'll get it," Hayato smiled and then went up to his room to get some stuff. He always found that sleuthing was a good way to sharpen his skills and this mystery was one for the books. He opened his locker, the one with the lock so that Lawnhead couldn't rummage through it and revealed his treasure. A forensic kit, like they use in CSI complete with things to get evidence with. He walked out with his kit in hand and examined the nooks and crannies of the last place that he was seen.
"Hmm..." He thought as he picked up a tiny colored ball discarded among the weeds near the cafeteria. He took a look at it with his white gloved hand and put it in a bag. He needed to examine it for prints or DNA later.
He then proceeded to go to the field carefully checking for tracks and signs of him.
A small discarded cardboard of crackers was his next clue. The cookies were cheese flavor, his favorite. He nodded, he must be getting closer. He surveyed around, and didn't leave a stone or leaf unturned. He must be here somewhere. He wondered how he could have gone so far. Night was fast approaching. His parents must be made Hayato more determined to find him. He scoured around and hoped that he didnt fall or get into an accident somewhere.
His next discovery was blood. He braced himself. There was a lot of blood around. He wondered if their worse fears was confirmed if he did die and if he did, what caused it? He frowned. He looked around more until he almost stepped on something small, furry and round. He bent down to find a tiny ferret nuzzling his feet.
"Hello, what are you doing here?" he asked the tiny one as he picked it up and looked around. Ferret? His eyebrows furrowed.
"Silk! What are you doing here?" He called out as he found him, in a small clearing with four little ferrets around him. The fifth one in his hand ready to jump out to his mama. "Wait, silk.. you're a girl?"
The ferret looked at him curiously and nuzzled his hand then allowed him to carry her back and her offspring back to campus and deliver her back to her delighted and shocked owner. He smiled as he looked at the small ziplock of clues he found. It was fun playing detective for a day.
