The Gift of the Magi: Dialogue Work
Kay POV: "Not enough" I thought as I counted my extra yuan I had saved throughout the year. "How am I going to get a anniversary gift for Li with only 11 yuan?" I kept repeating to myself.
Li, my husband, is part of the Metalbending Police Force. He is tall and strong with dark brown hair and beautiful deep green eyes. Li is brave, compassionate and loving. His voice sounds like a choir of angels, and his touch is as gentle as a sky bison.
Li POV: "What could I possibly get Kay for our anniversary" I asked my friend, Tu.
Tu is a strong earth bender. He is tall with dark brown hair and blazing green eyes. He always smells like dirt, because of his earth bending talents. Tu has a very low strong voice, like the old Chief, Saikhan. He is as tough as the rocks he bend.
"Didn't you say that Kay had a beautiful, traditional betrothal necklace from her mother, maybe you could get something for the necklace," Tu replied.
" Great idea, Thanks, I have to go get something for her, see you tomorrow," I said.
"OK bye" Tu replied
Kay POV: "I need to get him something really nice, I mean it's our first anniversary" I said to my friend, Minghua.
"What if you get him a new sheath for his ancient sword, you said it's his prized possession, didn't you?" Minghua replied.
"Yes that is such a good idea, thank you, I'll go find one right now!" Kay exclaimed.
" Okay, see you later, Kay"
Li POV: "It was HOW much you said" Li asked a merchant in the Republic City Plaza.
"It is 75 yuan for a new sapphire chain for that betrothal necklace you keep talking about" replied the merchant.
It was a beautiful deep blue sapphire chain, for Kay's necklace. It was smiling at me. Nice and new Kay would love it, one problem I didn't have enough extra yuan to pay for it. I did have this old sword, so I sold it to pay for the sapphire chain.
"OK here 75 yuan for the chain," I replied.
" And one sapphire chain for your wife," the merchant said.
I knew he had cheated me out, but it was worth, for Kay.
Kay POV: "How much is that one?" I asked the antique collector.
"93 yuan," replied the collector
"I have 85 yuan." I said
"85, fine but you need to give it to me now, no I owe yous," replied the collector.
"I'll be right back, don't sell it please!" I exclaimed
"Fine"
What will I sell? I have no idea, wait i have this old betrothal necklace my mother gave me when I was a child, I should sell it to get enough money for Li's new sheath!
"I'm back with enough money for the sheath," I exclaimed.
"Good, it took you long enough." the old collector snapped.
"Here, 85 yuan, right here," I said.
"Here, your new sheath" the old collector said happily
"Thank you, sir!" I replied.
I ran out of there as fast as I could I was so excited to get home and show Li. He's going to be so happy, and I love when he is happy.
Li POV: "Honey wake up, it's our anniversary!" I exclaimed
" I'm already up hone," Kay replied
"I got you a great anniversary gift" I said
"I got you a great anniversary gift, too" Kay replied
"Come look," I said
I showed her the chain, and her face turned from happy and excited into surprise, little did I know that she had sold her necklace to pay for my gift, a new sheath for my sword. I sold my sword in order to pay for the chain I gave her. We laughed and had the time of our lives. Later in life we realized that had been the greatest anniversary we had ever had.
