Max's POV
I am in the middle of a dream when it happens. One of those shampoo commercial dreams where you are frolicking in a meadow full of flowers. It is so funny how the most peaceful part of your day can turn into the worst. I will never forget what it was like, I can still hear the echo of my screams whenever I go to bed. The pain was excruciating, one moment I was sleeping, the next I jackknifed into sitting position, clutching my head, trying to keep it from exploding. I felt Fang's hand on my shoulder, he was talking to me but I couldn't make out what he was saying. I heard the sirens of an ambulance as I lost consciousness.
*end of flashback*
I wake up to a white ceiling. I turn my head and see Fang. He looks worried and his eyes are swollen and red, like he had been crying.
"Thank God you are awake!" He exclaims as he smiles at me, but there is something off with his smile. It looks more like I grimace. I ask what's wrong and he replies.
"Max, while you were unconscious, the doctors took a MRI of your head. They noticed something strange in your Motor Cortex. After your MRI was finished, the doctors took a PET Scan of your body and a close up on your head. My Dearest Maximum, they found a tumors in your Motor Cortex and in your left lung," I felt tears running down my face.
"But dear, this doesn't change anything. You are going to have to live with an oxygen tank and will need chemotherapy, but we will go through this together. I found a support group that you can go to every week. Maximum Ride, I love you and that will never change."
The only noise in the room for a couple of minutes is the steady beats of my heart monitor. God, I love Fang so much. I don't know what my life would be like without him. He tells me to go to sleep so I close my eyes. As I slip into a dream, I mutter "I love you too."
