I've heard it said

That dreamers never lie

Abigail hated falling asleep after Marshall.

For three years they had been married, and for the most part, they were good years. Marshall was kind, loving and attentive to her, even after he cut off all contact with his best friend for her. She had expected him to resent her for it, but that wasn't Marshall's nature. Then again, she had not gotten away with it entirely.

Far from it.

It started about three months after he last saw Mary. He had gone to sleep while she was reading a book, and just when she turned off the light, she heard it.

"Mary."

The simple word brought about a fear in her that she had thought long gone. Mary was no competition to her, at least not anymore. Marshall loved her, and her alone.

At least, she thought so.

Months passed before he did it again, and still it hurt her just as deeply. He would sigh and shift in his sleep beside her, and once he had reached out in the darkness, but not to her.

Never to her.

She never brought to his attention. To her, it was a penance for forcing him to end a relationship that clearly meant so much to him. When she had first become involved with Marshall, Mary was there. She was a part of the deal. But when it became more clear that he would always run to Mary when she called, she knew she had to take a stand.

"Mary."

A tear rolled down her cheek.

She just had not realized it would last for the rest of her life.

You've been talkin' in you sleep

Sleeping in your dreams, with some sweet lover

Holdin' on so tight, lovin' her the way

You used to love me

Talkin' in your sleep

With lovin' on your mind
