Harm watch as his former partner and best friend walked out his office after checking in

with how he was, and started to questions when it was that he had first fallen in love with her.

~When I first meet her. She reminded me so much of Diane. I almost called her by that name.~

Thinking back to that fateful meeting, Harm was struck once again at the simpleness of it.

There hadn't been anything to suggest that he had fallen for the woman that stood there. But had

he known what it would grow into, would he have agreed to it?

~Of course I would. I thought she was Diane. And then that night when she walked up in

Harriet's uniform, I felt like I was looking at a ghost. I couldn't help it when I kissed her. But

was I

kissing Diane goodbye, or was kissing Mac?~ The thoughts tumbled around in his head as he sat

at his desk. ~And then in Paraguay I thought I would die. When I saw Mac about to be tortured,

I would have killed the world just to see her safe.~ His mind then went to what happened after.

~She kissed Webb. There's no getting around that.~

"Harm, are you okay?" Startled from his thoughts, Harm looked up to see Mac standing in

his doorway, a concerned look on her face.

"Think of the devil," Harm said quietly before answering louder, "I'm fine. Just thinking."

"Oh, what about?" Mac asked, knowing that not any old thought would make him look

like he had. ~Like he just lost his best friend. Or like- ~ Mac wouldn't let herself finish that

thought, but it came unbidden. ~ Like he's just lost his one love.~

"Oh nothing." Harm said, hoping the truth didn't show in his eyes. ~Except that I love

you. Yes, I first loved you because you reminded me of Diane, but now I love you for being the

spirited person you are. But I will never be able to tell you, because you made it quite clear in

Paraguay that you don't want anything to do with me romantically.~

"Okay, well, I'm going now. I was wondering if you wanted to walk out with me?" Mac

asked, finally remembering why she had come in the first place.

"Sure. Let me grab my coat." Harm said standing up and grabbing what he needed, then

he followed her out to the parking lot, and his car.
