Eyes of the Beholder

Eyes truly are a mysterious wonder-especially that of the consulting detective.

The ever-changing orbs appear seemingly cold and show lack of interest, but if one takes the liberty to observe carefully, they appear almost chameleon-like. Always changing, depending on what or who they land on, of course.

They emit an aura of concentration and focus during a time-consuming experiment. They gleam with excitement when a rather obscure cased is introduced. They seethe with hatred and rage when an idiotic forensics analyst and his curly-haired companion is nearby, taunting relentlessly. They cloud with indifference combined with annoyance when a rather pompous sibling comes for a "visit". They shine with interest during a challenging yet exciting task. They soften and evoke a feeling of comfort and family towards a very patient landlady who acts as a mother figure. They are also capable of showing a manipulative glint in order to get something in dire need.

Let's not forget condescending during a round of deductions or towards a humble detective inspector.

Those eyes are practically capable of showing anything- even sentiment.

However, it remains hidden behind all the others and only come into light when a certain speckled blonde with a psychosomatic limp is in danger. Then it slips, but only for a short while.

Heavens, the great consulting detective cannot risk exposing such feeling of sentiment. Now, that would be disastrous. And that is why it must remain hidden and stay hidden.

But even through the emotionless façade, those hidden emotions remain visible in the eyes, for the eyes of the beholder reveal everything that the beholder itself cannot.
