A/N: A random little thing that popped into my head. I hope you enjoy. Please review!
Washing the dishes and wiping bars eventually became a routine for Tifa, a second nature. Most of the time, when she'd finish, she'd wondered how she could have done it so fast without even realizing she had done it at all.
It was as if her days were written out for her, a process, a cycle that never ended. She'd sometimes wonder if she was more a robot than human. Never had the day turned out differently. Actually, that was a lie. Some days were different according to Denzel's illness and how bad it affected him.
One particular night, however, her routine was disrupted.
As usual, she closed the bar at exactly 9 pm and put the chairs up. As usual, she washed the dishes and wiped the counters, the motions of her hands identical to the day before.
Not like usual, there was a knock on the door and she frowned, her body tensing and preparing itself for a fight or intruder. She walked cautiously to the tavern door, and after a moment of listening for movement on the other side, she opened it and looked around.
No one was there, but a small package lay on the doorstep.
With an extra glance to her surroundings, she grabbed the package and closed the door, locking it.
Her curiosity getting the better of her, she threw caution out the window, and opened the package. It was what was inside that halted her movements. Inside the box lay a flower and a note.
She picked up the flower gently and examined it. It looked like a Sakura blossom. They grew beautifully in Wutai, but were not seen anywhere near Midgar. Placing the flower down, she picked up the small paper and read:
I saw it and thought of you.
She read it once, once more, and once more again, her brows furrowing. She instantly recognized the handwriting as Cloud's but she was unsure why he hadn't stayed or why he had been in Wutai. She'd seen his delivery schedule, and none as of late were addressed to that area. Also, why had he thought of her when he saw the flower? She sighed and leaned against the counter top.
She hadn't heard from Cloud in months and suddenly he leaves a flower on her doorstep with no explanation or hello? She felt somewhat hurt, and bitter, but she mainly felt flattered. Never had she seen Cloud do an act so... romantic? If that's what is was at all, which she hoped, but highly doubted.
Pushing thoughts aside, she carefully ran her thumb over the soft petal and smiled. Maybe it was his way of assuring her he was doing fine. Grabbing the note and flower, she walked behind the bar and grabbed a jar in the highest cabinet, pulling out a glass that already contained a dry flower within.
She opened the lid and gently placed the items inside. With a smile, she put the jar back and made her way to her room, her spirit lifted somewhat, despite the dark times.
Two years and an anniversary on the way later, Cloud was cleaning out the shelves for his wife and froze when he saw a bottle with two dried up flowers and a piece of paper. A small smile forming on his lips, he decided a trip to a flower field was necessary.
