BEEP BEEP BEEP! Janine looked up in a panic. 'Not again!' she thought, rushing into the kitchen. It never failed. In theory, she should be good at baking; it was just like chemistry. A cup of this, two teaspoons of that, each added in precisely the right order. In practice, she would inevitably become distracted by something, usually a book or her latest research. She pulled the pan of brownies out of the oven, looked down at the blackened mess, and sighed. Baking was so much easier when Claudia was around to peek impatiently in the oven every five minutes.
