Sunday was always such a bliss to Umi and Eli. The blonde-bluenette roommates didn't have any classes nor clubs so they could take it easy and did whatever they want. But maybe not that Sunday, when Maki suddenly barged into their apartment and asked with all her might, "Umi, Eli! Can I live with you two, please?"
Can I live with You Two, Please?
A 'Love Live! School Idol Project' fanfiction by Yuuki.
Disclaimer: I do not own Love Live. If I did, ChikaxYou would be a real thing already.
Coming from a high-class family made Maki's behavior more or less refined. So it was no wonder that Eli and Umi raised their eyebrows when she was barging into their apartment without knocking first. Not to mention that that Maki, the tsundere and stubborn Ojou-sama, was seriously begging to someone. They rarely saw that side of Maki, if not for the first time. "Something was off," that was both of them were thinking.
"Well, come in first and we'll hear you inside," said Umi to Maki who was gasping for breath.
"She's already inside you know," Eli said jokingly before she stood up and went to the kitchen.
"Yeah, yeah, Ms. Obvious," Umi muttered unamused while preparing slippers for Maki.
"Thanks," thanked Maki as she wore the slippers. "I hope I didn't bother you two," she continued in somewhat apologetic tone.
"Oh, no. Not at all. We're free anyway," Umi answered as they entered the living room. "I'm starting getting bored with Ayase-san's face anyway. A visit from a friend is pretty much appreciated," she added as the corners of her mouth formed a small grin.
"You know I hear that!" Eli shouted from the kitchen, annoyed. Umi and Maki can hear the blonde was starting to cook something.
"I saw in Rin's IG story that you were going out with her and Hanayo just 30 minutes ago," the bluenette tilted her head before she continued. Maki nodded before grabbing a drink from the table. "Did something happen with them?" Umi added carefully, afraid that something may really happen.
"No," Maki shook her head. But soon she corrected her answer. "Maybe, yes." Because Umi started to look worried, she added, "No, don't worry. None happen between me and them but something did happen to me because of them."
"I don't understand."
"Let's just wait until Eli's finish her cooking," Maki said before grabbing another drink.
"Hey, that's mine!" Umi protested but it was too late. Maki gulped it down without feeling guilty before shrugged her shoulders.
Eli, still wearing an apron, entered the living room and said, "And the one before that was mine. Well, whatever." She put down some snacks and 3 cans of cola. "So, what happened?" asked Eli after Maki was back to her usual state. After taking a deep breath for the umpteenth time that afternoon, Maki began to tell her story.
Nishikino family ran a hospital and it was already a common knowledge that Nishikino Maki would inherit it someday. Because she knew that, she had been studying very hard since she was a child to live up to the expectation. Did she hate it? Not in the slightest. She loved her family, she loved her family's hospital, and above all, she loved studying. So why would she hate it?
Ever since she could remember, she was always an introvert. So even if all the studying reduced her playing time, it didn't bother her at all. Well, it was not like she had any friends to play with. Ups...
But as she grew up, it changed. She came to know photography, and she began to like it. She started to like the piano lessons that she always thought as a bother. The starry sky which she saw during her family trip to a beach made her love stargazing. She still loved studying, but as she grew up, she began to find other hobbies that she loved as much as studying. Aside from hobbies, she also began to realize that living her life alone was rather boring. So, clumsy as she was, she started making more friends. That was when she met μ's and as the time went by, she treasured them more.
Her love for piano and music grew bigger when she joined μ's. She did her other hobbies as well, but she worked especially hard at music, to the point she neglected her studying which made her father forced her to quit μ's. Well, even though it ended well thanks to μ's succeeded in convincing her father to let her did what she wanted - and of course she bounced back her grades - that made she realized that her time in music was almost up. She was going to inherit the hospital soon, and if that time came, not only music, surely she couldn't do her other hobbies as much as she did in high school. That was why she wanted to use the rest of her high-school life and her college life, the only time she could be "free", as she pleased.
Everything was going smoothly up to her last year of high school. In her second year, she collaborated with Kotori to make photo-book of RinPana, which turned out great because of Kotori's talent as a designer, RinPana's charm, and of course her own talent as a photographer. In her last year of high-school, she composed songs for Honoka and Nico's debut as pro idols, which Maki herself didn't know why they insisted that it had to be her who composed their songs. The songs became quite popular, just as Nico predicted. But because she was using an alias when she wrote the songs, no producers nor company can bother her, as long as μ's members keep quiet.
When she had free times, sometimes she went stargazing with Eli or Umi-obviously, she went to mountains with the latter. And lastly, when Nozomi came back to the town every now and then - Nozomi decided to travel around the world as soon as she graduated - she happily listened to Nozomi's stories that never bored her. Nozomi latest story about a small town named Numazu was particularly interesting.
Two months before graduating, it was pretty much decided that she was accepted at T-University. Soon, she decided that she wanted to move out from her house and living alone. The reason she told her parents was she wanted to live somewhere near her campus. Well, of course, there was more to it. She also wanted to be as free as possible, so that she could do her hobbies to the max. But hey, you just couldn't tell that to your parents, can you?
After spent a month convincing her parents, finally, they gave their consent on one condition. She must live with her friends that they knew. In other words, she must live with a μ's member. "That's easy," was what Maki thought that time. Rin and Hanayo were also accepted at T-University so she could always ask one of them or maybe both of them to live together. So she put that matter off for another month, as she busy prepared the necessary documents for her university and things for moving out.
But that was where her problem began. Just before she wanted to tell Rin and Hanayo about renting a house together, guess what? They told her that they started GOING OUT. That afternoon, in the front of the newly *cough* wed *cough* couple who was giggling and flirting (not like it's different than the usual) nonstop, she could only resent her decision to put things for too long.
"And that's what brings me here," sighed Maki as she drank the rest of her cola.
Umi looked confused as she protected her cola from Maki's hand. "Um, exactly what?"
"You know, this Sonoda-san here is still as pure as a kindergartner. You should explain to her clearly, Maki," said Eli, ignoring Umi who shouted "HEY!"
Maki sighed before mumbling, "Really," as she started to explain it thoroughly to the dense Umi. Her hand now busy trying to take Eli's cola. "Now, Umi. Imagine you want to live with Honoka and Kotori but they're acting lovey-dovey. Every day."
"I don't see any problem with that. That's what they've been doing since we're children anyway," Umi said as she shrugged her shoulder. "And of course they're acting lovey-dovey with me too," she added that with a smug face.
Maki looked at Eli with disbelief. Eli shrugged her shoulders as she stood up and went to the kitchen once more, giving up her cola to Maki.
"Really? And what do you mean with 'act lovey-dovey'?" Maki shifted her attention back to Umi, seemingly completely forgot the main reason why she disturbed Umi and Eli in the first place.
"Maybe, like hugging?"
Maki shook her head in disbelief. "That's what you do with a friend. With, your girlfriend, you kiss them. And maybe more than that. Let's just say, sex."
As soon as she heard 'kiss', Umi quickly reddened. At 'sex', she couldn't take it anymore. And in one quick motion, she stood up and pointed to Maki, "W-What!? Maki, what're you talking about? T-That's embarrassing! Shameless!"
"You're exaggerating, Umi," said Eli as she brought more snacks and drinks. "That's completely normal you know. You have to do it sooner or later when you have a boyfriend."
"E-Eli!"
"Oops, am I wrong? Do you prefer it to be a girlfriend instead of a boyfriend?" Eli laughed as she continued teasing Umi.
"ELI!" Umi's face is so red that Eli couldn't tell its difference with Maki's hair.
"It'd be very awkward if Maki found them in the middle of doing something." Eli did the air quotes gesture as she said 'something' which reddened Umi's cheek further.
Maki sighed for the umpteenth time today. "Eli, stop it. We're going nowhere, you know?"
"Sorry, Maki. I just need to make sure this girl knows what's the problem here," said Eli apologetic. "She can't be that pure forever, can she?"
"Ha," Maki said as she rolled her eyes. "Okay, Umi, now you understand what is exactly my problem, don't you?"
"I do," Umi growled as she tried to return her face to its normal color. "So, because you can't live with them, you want to live with us instead?"
"That's the point. I'm sorry if this is so sudden, but I don't have any other choice," Maki said desperately. "Honoka and Kotori are out of question, as they still live with their parents. I can't trouble Nico because she's already busy taking care of her family and career. And Nozomi isn't even here."
"I'm sure Nico will be happy to take you in though," Eli murmured which ignored by Maki. But the blush on the redhead's face didn't go unnoticed by both of her senpai.
"A-Anyway, I really don't have any other choice," Maki said. Eli realized that Maki tried to change the subject but she just let her be. "Besides, I think I can learn much more things from you two more than the others," Maki added sincerely. Well, Honoka or Rin would give her headache for sure instead of things to learn.
Eli looked at Umi for a moment before nodded. "We actually want to welcome you here. But, you see, we only have two room here. I don't mind sharing room with you, but..."
Eli didn't continue but Maki knew. It's about their privacy. Teens like them tended to have things that they didn't want others to know. "I know that already. But then what should I do?" Maki growled. If this went like this then she had to give up her hobbies sooner and she totally hated that. It was not like she didn't want to be a doctor. That was her dream since she was a little girl, but she still had more things that she wanted to do right now.
Eli and Umi knew exactly how desperate Maki was as they knew how much Maki loved her hobbies. If they let her lived with her parents during college, for sure she would be restricted because her dad was kinda strict and Maki tended to just obey him.
"The problem would be solved if you were Honoka. I mean, she'd just did what she wanted if she was in your position," Umi said. Eli noticed the faraway look in the bluenette's eyes and the pride in it.
"I second that. But we know that Maki is the polar opposite of Honoka," Eli agreed with a small smirk.
Maki twirled the end of her hair as she said, "What's that? I don't understand you."
After minutes of silence, Maki let out a frustrated sigh and said, "I give up. I just can't see a way out of this."
"How about asking your other friends?" the blonde questioned.
Maki snorted at that. "Yeah, as I have tons of friends I can just ask one of them," she said sarcastically. "Thanks, Eli, that's very helping."
"Hey! I'm just trying to help!" Eli said unamused.
"Hmph!"
Obviously, that wasn't a behavior of a person who was asking for help. But given that they have gotten so close the past years, Eli just let her be.
"I actually think of a solution," Umi mused, looking at Eli. "But I don't know whether you'll agree with me or not."
"Let's hear it that first," Eli said as she leaned toward the bluenette.
"How about we move to a bigger place with more rooms?"
Eli widened her eyes in surprise. "Umi! That might be it!"
"But..."
Toward their kouhai who let out her small voice, the senpai pair could only raise their eyebrows. They waited a minute but Maki didn't say anything else. The redhead only sat there uncomfortably while twirling her hair. They realized that she was looking away from them. "Anything wrong, Maki?" asked Umi in the end.
"No, I'm grateful for the idea," said Maki with a small voice. "But is it really okay? I mean, don't you love this place?" she continued as she recalled how many times the pair told her that their current apartment is so comfortable.
Eli sighed and looked at the Umi who was smiling. "Of course we do," said Umi softly. "But Maki, you know? We love you more than we love this apartment."
Eli nodded before she added, "If it's helping you, we don't mind moving out at all. I mean, it's not like we buy this place at the first place."
"So? How does it sound, Maki? Do you still want to live with us?"
Maki knew that her friends love her. But hearing it directly made her extremely happy but embarrassed at the same time. She wanted to express her grateful feeling properly, but even after a minute of silence, the best she could give was only, "I do. Thanks."
The tsundere Queen didn't change at all since high-school. Facing the blushing Maki, Umi and Maki gave Maki big smiles and said, "You're welcome."
After picking out the places they wanted to check the next week, Maki decided it was time to go home. Right before she opened the door, she turned to Umi and Eli who watched her went and said, "Just want to make sure here. You two aren't gay for each other, are you?"
Faced with the surprise question like that, Umi and Eli looked at each other before saying in harmony, "Me? With this Sonoda-san/Ayase-san? No way!" Maki swore she never saw they laughed as hard as that before. "I'll take that as a no," Maki muttered as she opened the door.
*strikethrough* Legend says that Sonoda-san and Ayase-san still laughing until now. *strikethrough*
