In fanfiction, a drabble is a snippet exactly 100 words in length. It's not much to write, and yet the trick is to tell a story or set a mood while maintaining precise brevity. This drabble pertains to the episode, "The Plague." I hope my words are as effective as the letters they describe.

The letters scrawled across the glass leap in vibrant contrast to the starkness of the room, scarlet reassurance printed on the pane but etched into the mind of the man staring weakly from the bed.
Hutch waits, and as he waits, he counts his breaths. Each marks the passage of precious time, of lost hope. One hundred forty-eight years collapse into hours. The promise of a lifetime diminishes to the measure of every labored gasp.
He has no illusions left. This time, there'll be no magic rescue for Captain Marvel.
And, yet… those letters hold a promise of their own.
