Crying oh so softly, face looking up to the sky grief stricken. Sad because she lost to people she cared so deeply for and must silently deal with the abuse of her foster parent. Kakashi sensei off on a mission wasn't there to comfort her tears away so she sat on her roof staring up at the full moon crying softly and singing a song so beautiful it quieted every animal in town and every animal close enough to hear it, although she wasn't singing loudly at all. She silently cried unknowingly attracting the attention of the other rookie's of Konoha. They listened in silence all glancing up in silence of sakura who was bathed in the light of the moon that hit her face just right she looked beautiful to the others but although she was beautiful she was sad and it made them sad.
"I'll handle it this time." Shikamaru said. The others nodded while Ino gave the 'be careful with her feelings look'. Every one left as Shikamaru walked his way up to the roof with his hands in his pocket. Only to have Neji who he had no idea was there stop him.
"Let me handle it please." He said
"Ok man. Go for it." he sighed after thinking about it for a minute, then watched as Shikamaru walked up the remainder to the roof and silently sat down next to sakura who tried to dry her eyes quickly to hide the tears from him. Shikamaru watched the scene quietly just so he could step in if Neji wasn't going about helping sakura the right way.
"N-n-Neji-kun." She said in quiet greeting. Neji simply put an arm around her shoulders and let her lean into him. Sakura simply went back into her silent tears humming silently her soft beautiful song. They stayed that way for a long time. How it pained Shikamaru to see sakura cry like that but he couldn't understand why it pained him. Of course he didn't want to see his comrades sad put it shouldn't affect him this much. He thought to himself not knowing that Neji was thinking the same thing himself.
"Thank you." She said quietly. "I'm sorry that I've gotten your shirt so wet."
"It really isn't a big deal Sakura. I just wanted to help you out." Sakura didn't say anything else she simply looked up at Neji and gave a sad sad smile. Neji couldn't resist rubbing her back softly. For that is what he felt he should do and Shikamaru stood back and watched in shock and amazement of this. He saw that Sakura would be fine with Neji so he turned around and walked away. Neji sensed that Shikamaru finally went on his way and continued to comfort Sakura.
Neji watched sakura cry her heart out. He watched in silence as she looked to the sky and cried more in silent agony. He knew that sakura was emotional but he had never came across sakura so distraught, never seen such pain such agony such relentless sadness. After 20 minutes sakura completely let herself go forgetting neji was there and let loose gut wrenching sobs that made even the cold Hyuga's heart ache with her. She drew her legs closer to her stomach put her arms around her legs and put her forhead on her knees and attempted to quiet her sobs. Until neji finally reached over to her and put an arm around her
Sakura stopped crying and was shocked to find herself in Neji's embrace for she never thought she would see the day when Neji stepped out of his character for anyone. She closed her eyes and simply enjoyed the moment that she knew would soon come to an end. She simply snuggled closer and let the moment stay and hoped it would stay that way for a while and they stayed there until the sun began to rise, until sakura fell asleep on her roof with Neji embracing her. When Neji saw she was asleep he simply took her to her living room and laid her down on her couch since he didn't know where her room was and then he left.
