Seasons
Chapter One: Sisters
It was autumn again in Denver. The leaves were changing colors and the weather was becoming cooler. Letters were beginning to pick up with so many summer loves trying to stay together. The usual love letter was fairly easy to redirect since so many left clues as to where their summer love had occurred or details about places they longed to meet up again. Sometimes letters could be redirected by just fixing the envelope and a simple Google search. Then there were some letters that did need more help.
It was a Wednesday morning in October just before 8 am. Oliver had come in early to finish up some paper work. He had some classical music going in the background and was filling out papers at his desk. He was so engrossed in what he was doing that he didn't even realize when Shane walked in and sat at her computer. She had been there for almost ten minutes when he looked up and realized that she was there. He smiled as he saw her sitting at her computer engrossed in her work and then went back to his own work. He enjoyed that they could sit together in comfortable silence.
It wasn't until almost forty-five minutes later when Rita and Norman came in that they stopped working. Rita and Norman had gone out to breakfast together before the long day of work. They were discussing little work things when the phone rang. Rita answered it by saying, "Denver DLO." She listened for a little while then hung up. "Shane, there's a visitor up front for you. They said it's your sister." Shane sighed and walked out.
"I didn't know she had a sister," Norman said. Rita shook her head to say that she didn't know either.
"I think she has a half-sister," Oliver said. After that they all got back to work. It was almost a half hour later when Shane came back followed by another woman. She was a little bit shorter than Shane and looked a little like her in the face but it was quite obvious that they were very different. The woman had long hair that went halfway down her back. It was an ombre blue that started black and got lighter and lighter until it hit sky blue at the tips. She had a septum piercing, a nose stud, an eyebrow piercing and multiple earrings that covered both ears from bottom to top. She wore a white tank and carried a black leather jacket in her arms, tight skinny blue jeans and a huge silver necklace. She had a tattoo sleeve that covered her entire left arm and had dark eyeshadow with bright red lipstick.
Shane came walking to her desk and grabbed her purse while she spoke. "This is my sister, Jen," she said. "Jen, this is Oliver, Rita and Norman." Rita and Norman gave a little wave to her and she smiled back.
Shane walked over to Oliver and whispered to him for a minute. She ended with, "I'll try to be back right after lunch."
Author's Note: I know that this is not the same story that had originally been posted or originally been thought of in my head, but my story that I had planned did not fit the characters so beautifully created by Martha Williamson. I felt like the other story didn't fit so I changed the story. I hope that you like it.
Thanks,
Beth
