A one-shot about how Torak felt when Polgara rejected him at Vo Mimbre.

Torak's tone was honeyed when he faced Polgara, his would-be bride. After millennia of longing for her, the most beautiful and powerful woman in all the world and millenia spent in loneliness, he was going to have a wife and father children. His ego was so big, that he didn't bother to consider rejection from Polgara the Sorceress. He directed the most overpowering, or so he thought, Will at Polgar, who was in the shape of an Owl. The outcome of His proposal would make him husband of Polgara the Sorceress and King of all the World.

-Abjure thy father, Polgara and come with me, I will wed thee and make thee Queen of all the World, thy Power and thy Might shall be second only to Mine.

He saw Polgara's Will crumble before him, and it delighted Him. Sweet victory would be His at last! He shall have Dominion over all the World and father another race of Gods! He shall set aside his brothers; even defy his father with both of their Wills combined! The One-Eyed God rejoiced, exulted. She was such a helpless creature after all, like a wolf in a hunter's trap. Only He was the trap and his future wife was Wolf. He peered in her thoughts, and they where exactly thinking the same thing, although using different comparisons. He thought that after they got married and She being made Queen of all the World, He shall not have much difficulty bending her Will to his. What a pity! He thought it to be a challenge, the woman who terrified his Grolim Sorcerers and had admirers beyond counting. But then, if he thought about it carefully, humans cannot match a God!

He felt Polgara almost give in. In the last moment, a shriek of Defiance emanated from an owl. This was not supposed to happen! HOW? How did a mere human possess such strength in the Will to resist him? The one thing He didn't know and could never know, was that Polgara's mother' awareness was also inside the Owl. It was she who defied him and halted her daughter's impulse to go to him. And so, for the first time in his long life, the Maimed God of Angarak felt pain and humiliation. Unsure He was of his victory on this Third and Fatal day. It was with feeling of doubt and uncertainty of course, but also hurt ego and humiliation that he faced Brand, the Rivan warder and his Challenger. Filled with self-doubt, he threatened them just to give Himself more assurance:

-Then prepare to perish ye All!
