Edd was walking in the school hallway when he heard this gorgeous music.

"It's just the four of us in this little space,

Nothing to complain about, other then a shoe lace.

Mama works, but the three of us are together,

Nothing to complain,

I just wish we had a dad,"

That voice. It sounded oddly familiar.

Edd followed where the string instrument was coming from. He followed it to the music room. The odd thing was the lights were off.

"I wish we could be different,

But no one is the same,

That's what growing up is about,"

Edd slowly walked into the room.

Marie was startled as she came to an abrupt halt, nearly tossing the guitar to her side.

"Double D!"

"Hello, Marie." Edd said shyly. He was surprised that it was her. He never knew Marie had a hidden talent like this one.

They were both quiet. Marie tried to stand in her natural pose, but was having trouble getting back into her character. The Eds and the Kankers didn't have many happy memories together. They made amends, but didn't use any words. It was when Eddy snapped at them, three years ago, that they finally backed off.

"I liked your playing." Edd said to her.

"Thanks." Marie answered in a 'whatever' tone.

He thought of her lyrics. There was so much he didn't know about her. Marie always interested him. She tried to make herserlf look like one of those punk chicks. Marie put herself in that light so nobody would know her real story.

"How long have you been playing for?"

"I don't know. Maybe when I was seven, or younger."

"Oh, I play an instrument too."

Marie looked up from her feet. "Do you?"

"The pedal steel guitar. Mother and Father insisted that I play it. Are your sisters music lovers too?" he asked.

"They don't even know that I play guitar."

The room was quiet once more. Marie rubbed her arm and was now looking at the guitar in a melancholic way.

"Where did you get this guitar from?" Edd asked. He knew he was prying, but he felt very enthuised from what he heard.

"It's the only thing my biological father left behind."

She sat down in her seat, holding the guitar in her lap so gently.

Edd came over and sat down next to her.

"Can you teach me how to play?"

Marie looked up at him. "What?"

"I've always been interested in learning how to play a new instrument. Is it hard?"

Edd could see Marie's face lighting up. He never saw her look this giddy.

"Um, sure."

She taught him how to hold it and then a few notes. They laughed with one another as Edd messed up certain notes, but eventually he was able to play a little tune.

Both of them frowned when the bell rang.

"That was fun."

"Um, Double D…"

Edd blushed when he saw that he was touching her hand.

Marie blushed too.

Before they exited into the busy halls, Marie shut the door. For a moment Edd grew worried thinking this was all a set up.

"Can you please keep this a secret?"

"Why? I think the others should know about your talent."

"Thanks, but, I don't want anyone to know right now. Please?"

"Sure."

Edd never saw Marie act shy before. It was quite a difference from her usual character she put on.

When he wasn't paying attention, Marie stole a kiss.

"See you later, cuty." She said in her frilly voice when they were out in the hallway.

"What did Marie do to you?" Eddy asked.

"Oh, she was…" Edd stopped himself. Marie was leaning against a locker with her circle of friends. Her true colors appeared in her eyes asking him not to tell.

"Never mind, you don't want to know." Edd said acting embarrassed.

As Ed and Eddy laughed, telling him to man up, he and Marie shared a smile before going seperate ways in the halls.
