Kate rubbed her eyes, heavy with sleep. She hadn't moved for what felt like hours. Sitting in the same spot of the bed for the past 12 hours. Desperately wishing none of this ever happened.
Acting like she had her happy ending. Like the pain wasn't eating her alive. But it was.

A noise in the kitchen had her startled.
"Castle?", she whispered softly and got up from the bed, walking into the kitchen slowly.
To her disappointment, only a glass had fallen into the sink due to a light breeze.
Kate moved the close the window and sighed as she came across the scrabble game they had left on the table before they drove to the Hamptons, unfinished. Castle was about to beat her.
Castle.
A deep sigh escaped her lips as she felt her eyes getting wet.
She wanted him. She needed him. Right now.
Kate walked back to the bedroom. Their bedroom and pulled the dresser open.
With a smooth move, she grabbed a shirt of his and pulled it over her head.
It smelled exactly like him.
More tears poured out of her eyes and she found herself in their bed. On his side for now.
She pulled the blanket over her and sniffed his shirt another time. Her chest was burning now.
Heavy from the loss. Another loss. The loss of her happy ending. Her happily ever after.
But most of all the loss from the love of her live. Her partner. Her always.
Castle was never going to return. Was never going to marry her. Wake up with her every morning.
Love her until eternity. All of it had been ripped from her on their wedding day.
That day, Kate had sworn to herself that she would never let herself fall in love, like she had with him. Her hero. Her everything.
And she was totally okay with that. She should have known better. First her mother, now her lover.
Her eyes drifted shut as she lost herself in their memories.
At least in her dreams things were alright and always would be.
