Worlds Apart Preview

A lone, dark figure sat alone in the dim light of the large room, feet dangling over the side of a king-sized bed with purple sheets. Dimentio sighed inwardly and put a hand to his head in anguish.

Outside, a loud rumble shook the ground, and he nearly fell off the bed. The time was drawing near, the time to unleash his master plan. His plan to get rid of his suicidal leader and create the one thing he had always wanted.

A perfect world.

He curled into a ball on his bed; those three words gave him both good and bad thoughts.

Having a perfect world all to himself would be wonderful, but he had made friends with his fellow minions. Obtaining the world that he wanted would mean loosing those friends.

O'Chunks…

Although the Scottish man could be annoying, with his blabbering about "chunking" people, he was a nice man, one whom Dimentio often found he could relate with.

Mr.L…

No one had ever found out that he was the one responsible for Mr.L's death. Everyone believed he had been destroyed along with Sammer Kingdom. He and Mr.L had never really gotten along, but that was probably because of his short stay in the castle. Once Dimentio's plan was underway, however he would be of use again.

Nastasia…

She was bossy, but underneath the hard shell, she was a beautiful, kind woman. Any friendship they had made would most likely be shattered once he betrayed the Count, though. He could tell she had a thing for him, and he guessed she would be absolutely devastated if Count Bleck died.

Which would happen anyway, even if I don't kill him myself.

A knock sounded, followed by a scream, "DIMENTIO!"

He groaned and floated to the door, opening it to a fuming green girl.

Mimi…

The fifteen-year-old had always been his best friend. She acted childish, but that was what he liked about her.

"Those dummy-head heroes beat me again!" Mimi complained. "The prissy princess spanked me bad, and then we fell through the floor! I teleported here quick to tell you that the doofus brothers are coming!"

"Thank you, Mimi." He floated out of the room solemnly, wondering how the heck she fell through the floor.

"Come back soon, okay? I don't want to worry that you've gotten hurt if you take too long." Mimi followed him down the hallway.

He turned and smiled at her. Not a fake, insane one, but a true, kind smile, one that did not falsely portray that he was a lunatic. He wanted to tell her the truth, that he would not be coming back, that once he let the heroes beat him and stored Luigi for later use, he would leave to his perfect world and everyone else would fall.

He couldn't bring himself to do it. He knew she would be upset. So he simply said, "I'll do my best, Mimi. If I do not make it back, however, I want you to know: You're my best friend. I'll never forget you."

She giggled and hugged him tightly. "Oh, I know you'll beat them Dimmy. You're really strong and you've got magic."

Dimentio's heart was slowly splitting in two. "Goodbye, Mimi," he whispered. He gently stroked her cheek with his thumb, then backed away, and teleported to his post to wait for the heroes.

"Goodbye, Dimmy," she whispered in return. Somehow, the way he said his farewell made her uneasy. Shivering, she pushed the thought away and waited for him to return.

A preview of a series I will write sometime in the future, probably at the same time I write Count's Crazy Castle.
