A Toy

Adam woke up in that field on a cloudy morning. His chest ached where a scar was finishing its formation, marking where that angelic Molotov cocktail first touched him. He moved his shoulders and twisted his hips, cracking his entire spine more than a twenty-year-old should be able to and grunted in displeasure. He was alive. He was fucking alive.

His stomach growled loudly and Adam pulled himself into a sitting position to assess his surroundings. His mind was a flurry of disjointed memories, of people and creatures that apparently cared enough to bring him back from the dead twice only two leave him to fate like an old toy. There was the field and trees. There was the drive that he vaguely remembered what's his name – Dean – pulling into all dramatic. That would be his path out of here.

Adam pushed himself to his feet and stood for a long moment, stretching both legs a bit. He looked around the area one last time and rubbed a hand along his shirt, feeling the scar underneath. He had no place to go, no family to seek, but he was not about to stay in this stupid clearing for the rest of his life either.

A few tentative steps turned into stiff strides. Once Adam was down the road and out of sight, the rain began to pour.
