It was a warm spring day, and I went to say goodbye to my best friend Hermione, before she headed off for school. Hermione was going to a different school this year, but wouldn't tell me where. The entire trip to the train station she kept muttering crazy things like how "it would've been a quicker trip if she'd just taken her broom" and "how stupid it was that she couldn't use magic in front of muggles". She wouldn't tell me what a muggle was either, which really irked (hehee; irked is a funny word) me because she always told me her secrets. Hermione ran into the station and I chased after her.
"Bye Lizzy!" She shouted before she disappeared into a crowd of people. I sighed and walked up to a concession stand nearby, aiming to by some chocolate. I read the name tag of the man behind the stand: Stan Shunpike.
"Hi, I'm Lizzy."
"M'name is Shunpike."
"Nice to meet you Mr. Shunpike." I announced while holding out my hand. He shook it, looking pleased with himself.
"So how does someone get one of these thingies?" I asked, paying for my (12) Hershey bars. He chuckled.
"Beets me, this 'ere ain't mine, I 'uz watchin' it fur a friend."
"So what do you do then?" He looked both ways then motioned for me to lean in.
"I run tha Knigh' bus. Lotta kids at yer school heard of it."
"My school?"
"Ya know, 'Ogwarts. Well, maybe 'ya wouldn't know, 'yer probably a first year. Speakin' of, 'yer probably going ta be late for 'yer train. Do 'ya know where 9 ¾ is?" It could've been his thick accent, but I literally didn't understand a word that he just said. I just nodded and thanked him for the chocolate before slooooooowly walking in the other direction. I got bored so I went to sit against a beam, a little bit before station 10. As soon as my back hit the brick, I fell through. I sat stunned for a while not believing my own eyes. People-at least, I thought they were people- walked by with all sorts of animals and what looked like toys. One lady' hair kept changing from hot pink to cheetah print to hot pink again. One boy ran past me and dropped something. I picked it up. The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1) by Miranda Goshawk was printed neatly across the book's cover.
"Wait!" I yelled after him, "you dropped...this." I got up and walked after the boy. He lead me to a train called "The Hogwarts Express". Why does that name seem so familiar? A man, the conductor I assumed, stopped me.
"Why aren't you in your school robes yet?" He demanded.
"I-I..." I began.
"My sister and I were going to change once we left the station." A voice behind me explained. The man grunted and turned away to pester more terrified looking children. I climbed onto the train.
"Thanks for saving me."I beamed to a boy with black hair and vivid green eyes, kind of like my mom's. He blushed.
"No problem." The boy said, patting me awkwardly on the shoulder.
"I'm Harry Pot-um, my name's Harry." He stuttered. I raised my eyebrow.
"My name is Elizabeth Grace. Everyone calls my Lizzy, but you're going to call me Eli, aren't you." It wasn't really a question. He laughed.
"Um sure then. Nice to meet you Eli Grace." He said, holding his arm out like a Victorian gentleman. I grinned.
"Same to you Harry Pot-um-my-name's-Harry." he sighed.
"Oh, by the way, I think this is yours." I said conversationally. He took the "spell book" from me with a nod.
"So, what's that book about?" I questioned. He gave me a strange look.
"It's the book of spells we have to learn. Don't you remember?" I shook my head.
"I wasn't even supposed to be here, I just came to say goodbye to my friend. I should be going now." I got up just as the train started moving. Uh-oh.
"Welcome to Hogwarts, then."
