When I Hold You

ӁӁӁӁӁӁӁӁӁӁӁӁӁӁӁ

When I hold you, I marvel at your delicate rosebud mouth. I wonder at how your tiny little hand curls around my finger. You are so dainty, especially compared to your brother.

When I hold you, I cannot help but wonder if I should. These hands are rough and more suited to a sword than cradling a tiny new life. But you only sleep peacefully when I or your mother hold you.

When I hold you, I am in awe. The cap of hair decorating your head is like fine silk. You squeak when you want to be held but aren't awake enough to let out a full cry.

When I hold you, I swear before Aslan that I will always protect you. You captured my heart the first time I saw you, squirming, red, and wrinkled. There is naught I wouldn't do for you.

When I hold you, I wonder if I am truly prepared for this new task. I know how to raise a son. It seems so easy compared to the task of raising a daughter.

When I hold you, I thank Aslan for I am blessed. I kiss your little brow and murmur soothingly as you stir. I promise I will always love and protect you, my little princess.
