Challenge: #112 Stargatedrabbles: A-Z J is for .... Journey
I'm getting weaker and each step is a struggle. I feel my strength draining away with every heartbeat as the blood runs down my leg and puddles in my boot. I look up, but the gate is far off in the distance, and I don't know if I'll make it.
I stumble, falling on my face because I no longer have the energy to slow my descent.
Lying there, I contemplate getting up but I just can't make myself move. I know the longer I lay here the closer death comes.
"Get on your feet and move, solider!" Suddenly, firm hands lift me to my feet and a strong arm snakes around my waist, giving me the fortitude I need.
Slowly, I manage to put one foot in front of the other.
Eventually, we reach the gate and stumble through, but when I hit the ramp on the other side, I find I'm alone. Medics swarm me and I asked about my savior. They look at me strangely and point to a covered body lying off to one side.
As I'm lead away, a soft voice near my ear tells me that the soldier died half an hour ago, just after he stepped through the gate.
Turning back, I stare at the covered form and wonder how Sargent Johnson managed to helped me to the gate⦠when he was already dead.
I'm posting this as it's own because I'm thinking of turning it into a larger story. What do you think....
