It was late in the evening and Scarlett O'Hara was back where she belonged. She could always come back to herself when she was under Tara's roof or feel her feet on her rich soil. The home still smells of the country landscape that surrounds it. It was one of the Georgia's best times of the year; early spring. It will be scalding hot in a short couple of months but for now the air was pleasantly brisk with a promise of renewal. A rebirth for the earth that once was shut down by the dark and dreary winter. Scarlett can only feel compassion towards the supernatural at this time because this is exactly what she hoped for herself.
Just like the earth, she too has just expierienced a dark, dreary time. Everything awful had always seemed to hit her at once. Good times come so slow and they go so fast. Not fair, she silently declared to herself. The war had laid the foundation for her inner strength to come out but now it has to come out again. The tools that had empowered her all those years ago will now have to come out of the shed that is herself. Yet, these circumstances are very different. Yes, during the war she had lost her mother but her situation right now was dealing with loss tenfold. She didn't have her sweet baby, Bonnie; dear friend Melanie; or precious Pa. They had gone to heaven with her angel mother. They deserve her, Scarlett had decided to herself, mother will certainly take care of them.
Who will take care of her, though? That brought up another big loss. She seriously thought that the worst thing in the world was that Rhett had walked out on her. When Melanie passed on, she needed him in that moment more than anyone, but out the door he went.
Rhett, why did you have to go? I know I said some horrible things to you, especially after Bonnie had died and I'm so sorry. I was hurting, too. I guess you couldn't see through your own pain, could you? You can call me selfish until you are blue in the face, but I wouldn't have left you the way you did me. You little bastard!
It's not long after that little rant inside her head is over and she quickly brushes away her tears with her freshly clean nightgown Mammy had washed for her. Thank God, she at least had her. She has to remind herself that Mammy is an old lady now and her time left on this earth is precious. That is what all these untimely deaths were teaching her slowly but surely. She pulls down the fresh covers on her bed and looks out her open window. It was a gorgeous black night with a million stars. She looked upon the stars, wished her angels upon them a good night and with that, Scarlett O'Hara fell into a peaceful sleep.
