Driver Daniel Buchner was the first to admit that his Ultor APC was not the fastest vehicle he had ever driven. Nor was it the best-designed vehicle he had ever driven. But it WAS his vehicle and more importantly, it didn't need to be perfect for what he was doing with it. It didn't need the speed that modern armoured vehicles needed to survive a modern battlefield, or need to worry about visibility for one simple reason.
The miners revolt had finally erupted into action after months of tensions and waiting and putting up with Colonel Masako's Mercenary Regiment sitting in orbit above them, just waiting for the Ultor Guards to fail. He smirked to himself. The miners revolt had nothing that could stop this vehicle. It's thick, sloped armour could easily stop any anti-armour weapons the Red Faction could have obtained. Even the unwieldy URL-6T rocket launcher aka Big Earl would need at least three hits to penetrate this armour and in the unlikely event of the rebels having one of those, Daniel had no intention of allowing them the chance to fire the weapon more than once.
With it's ULT-6AG 20mm Chain Gun and a forward-mounted 80mm Mortar, his APC was more than capable of dealing a lethal amount of firepower against the filth. In his opinion, when they revolting miners encountered his APC, they would be crushed in minutes.
His musings were abruptly interrupted by a sudden whooshing noise and a rocket suddenly slammed into the ground very close to him.
"Missed scum!" he yelled before he turned his vehicle sharply in the direction the missile had come from and opened fire with his own machine gun. The rebel ducked quickly back into the cave he'd come from and Daniel allowed himself a savage grin.
"Ha! That's what you get for challenging your betters scum!" he shouted as he waved his fist in the air. "That's what you're up against! Me and this heavy duty lady!"
There was a slow creaking, cracking noise and Daniel looked around with a puzzled frown. Whatever could be making that noise? Then there was a sudden crash as the entire bridge gave way beneath him and for a moment he felt weightlessness, before giving out a horrified scream as his vehicle plunged to the bottom of an impossibly deep trench from which there would be no escape or hope of survival.
Peeking out of his tunnel to survey the results of his work, Parker grinned savagely. Revenge felt good and it was amazing what you could achieve with an explosion in just the right place.
Suddenly the remaining guards opened fire and Parker ran.
