Connor loved Abby from the second he saw her. Their eyes met and his future flew past his eyes. A small wedding, two kids, unnamed at the time, a nice flat in Blackburn, walking his daughter down the isle, growing old, living together, dying together.
But life loves curve balls.
Connor hadn't even done a single thing he want to with Abby. Nothing, no wedding, no kids, no flat, no growing old together. Not a single thing had been done. Now there was blood spilled everywhere, he couldn't tell who's blood it was any more. Probably his, he knew the smell of it. Committed it to memory with all the accidents that happened around him, how could he not?
Now he remembered. Abby had been sneaking around next to a fence, looking for a rather small dinosaur on some farm, Connor right behind her. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the farm house door open and a man with a shotgun took aim at Abby.
Connor sped up and pushed Abby out of the way before reaching for his own gun, leaving his entire torso a perfect target. He heard a bang, a scream, and was flying back. His back hit the fence and it cracked apart.
He took note of his injury. The was a hole in his arm but other than that, he was fine. The farmer cocked the gun again and started towards Abby, wanting to finish both to them.
Connor heaved himself up, and crawled over to where Abby was. She was just looking at him with this look on her face saying 'what are you doing?'.
He flung himself on her, using his body as a shield for her. The farmer stopped halfway across the yard and took aim at Connor this time. Another bang and the farmer went back to the house.
Connor rolled off of Abby, panting slightly. She sat up at his side, trying her hardest not to cry. The slight hill they were on had given the farmer a perfect aim at Connor's back, even though he was lying down.
Red was everywhere, staining Connor's clothes and the grass beneath him. Abby pulled out her phone and called someone. Who, Connor couldn't tell. He knew she said what had happened and where they were and something about an ambulance, but he couldn't tell what words she said in what order.
"Ring," Connor grunted, before he spat out some of the blood in his mouth.
"What?" Abby asked.
"Around me neck, the ring. Take it." He told her, brown eyes meeting blue ones. Abby finally gave up and a tear rolled down her cheek.
"No, you're going to live." She replied defiantly.
"Someone just shot me back, I'm not going to last til an ambulance gets here." He smiled, putting on a brave face for his best friend. "Take me ring," He told her again.
"Connor," Abby started, on the verge of sobs.
"I love you," He said and closed his eyes. He felt Abby rest her head on his chest. He felt her sobs and put one comforting arm on her back.
"I love you too." Abby sobbed.
He may not have done all the things he wanted, but he had done three great things. One-get a super secret job, two-fall in love, three-die happy, and he had done all three with Abby by his side.
