"Daddy, can we go see Uncle Will?" Maddie asks.
"Sure Maddie!" Horace says.
The ride to Will's cabin is bouncy, and the horses are really big, but Maddie just has to see Will.
"Hey Horace!" Will says as we ride up to the house.
"Daddy, who's Horace?" Maddie asks.
"I am." Horace says.
"No, you're daddy. You're not Horace." Maddie persists.
"You see, I have two names. Horace is the one for my friends, and daddy is for you." Horace says, thinking on his toes.
"Oh. But I'm your friend, aren't I?" Maddie asks, starting to tear up a little.
"Yes, of course you are, but you see, you're my special friend, and you're the only one who's allowed to call me daddy." Horace said.
Maddie smiled, and threw her arms around Horace. "Ok, daddy!"
"So, Horace, how'd you come up with that?" Will asked, amused.
"Oh, you know, thinking on my toes. I would probably make a pretty good Ranger you know." Horace said.
"I don't think you're even fooling yourself, Horace." Will said, and they both started laughing.
So ya, Maddie is like, maybe five or six. This came to me as I was reading another fanfiction, one where Will had a kid that called Will 'daddy.' I don't know where I got the rest. I would probably make a pretty good Ranger. (echoing Horace's words, except I'm fooling myself.)
*Will appears with a flash of lightning*
Will: Actually, you would be a pretty good Ranger... if you were a boy.
Me: But you took on a girl; Maddie. Remember?
Will: Ah, but she was a special case.
Me: Everyone knows girls are naturally smaller, therefore we can hide easier.
Will: ... Ok, so you would already make a pretty good Ranger.
Me: YESSSSS! Except I'm already becoming a Ranger. I have a throwing knife (ok, I have 6), an equivalent to a saxe knife, I'm working on a cloak, I have two (high quality) bows and 4 arrows. So ya.
Will: I knew you were smart.
Me: *gasps* OHMYGOSHWILLSAIDI'MSMARTCANYOUPLEASEMAKEMEYOURAPPRENTICEPLEASE!
(What it says so you don't have to strain your eyeballs: OH MY GOSH WILL SAID I'M SMART CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE ME YOUR APPRENTICE PLEASE!)
Will: Umm, you see, a friend has you in mind. You'll have to wait for my friend to find you and then write about it.
Me: Noo, you can't leave me on a cliffhanger in my own book!
Will: I can and did.
*Will disappears with another bolt of lightning, this time going backwards from ground to sky*
Until next book, Wisper Ranger 26
