Sacrifice

Prologue

Gliding through the air, graceful as the always falling snow near the Icicle Inn. Cloud Strife felt a sudden overwhelming sense of happiness, almost as though he had just woken from a nightmare. Indeed he thought that he had never felt so happy.

Beside him floating like a feather, Tifa Lockheart smiled happily at him. She was so relieved to see a smile on his face, that she almost forgot the seriousness of their mission: to kill Hojo, the mad Shinra scientist, who was trying to help Sephiroth in his insane quest to summon the ultimate black magic: meteor, which, would, in all likelihood destroy the planet.

But all those thoughts escaped her mind just to see him...Cloud smile again. She hadn't seen him smile since her close friend and main love rival, Aeris Gainsbourgh had died, murdered at the hands of Sephiroth, while trying to save her beloved planet.

"Oi!" the sharp voice of Cid Highwind abruptly snapped Tifa out of her happy day-dream. "Glad ya Numbskulls are all findin' something to laugh at!" He silently pointed below.

Looming threateningly up at the team, was the dirty, poverty stricken streets of Midgar, where many people were staring and pointing in very obvious awe.

Slowly, gently the team landed in Midgar, near a trap door that would lead them to Hojo. While the others prepared for the upcoming fight, Cloud stood among them trying to rid himself of the feelings that had swamped him since he had seen Midgar. Such happiness...but at the same time a distinct feeling for dread, as though there would be a high price to pay for his happiness.

"Wake up!" Cid said. Cloud just shook his head
Concentrate he chided himself. "Everyone ready?" he asked. Everybody just nodded. Cloud understood, he was feeling anxious himself. Silently he lifted the trap door and began to climb inside.

As he climbed down into the hole Cloud thought of a new name for Midgar.

The City Of Sacrifice.

I really hope you enjoyed this prologue, although I fully understand if you didn't. I enjoyed writing it, but being occupied with a heavy school schedule, I am not sure when I will be able to start writing Chapter 1.
