Silence

I step into to golden circle, waving goodbye to my stylist, Sanora, as the podium slowly makes its way upward. Up to the arena, my deathbed. The sound of moving metal touching metal stops. I am surrounded by silence. A cold boring silence. Around me, a swamp forms, green and brown. There is no movement. THe arena is still and silent. I count the seconds.

58, 57, 56, 55, 54, 53, 52.

I am getting closer to death. A goes down my spine but I am still. Still and Silent.

49, 48, 47, 46, 45, 44, 43.

Who will win? I wonder. I know I won't. I have no one left. Mother hates me and Father is died. I find the eye of my District partner, Gronder. The poor boy. He is only 12. I hope he wins. I really do, I think when an Idea comes to mind. End it now.

35, 34, 33, 32, 31, 30, 29.

Do it now! I think. I should jump, I won't hurt anyone. It will be quick. Fast. Silent. A silent death. Yes, that is what I will do.

21, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14.

Now, I think. Jump! I wouldn't move. I couldn't jump. My feet were glued.

7, 6, 5.

Then is when my feet grow loose. But it is too late. As I free fall Caesar Flickerman's voice fills the arena, "Let the 26th Hunger Games Begin!"

I hit the ground with a hard bang. The arena comes alive. It's not still or silent anymore. It never will be again. The game have begun.
