She's Leaving Home
Wednesday morning at five o'clock as the day begins,
It is Wednesday morning at five o'clock, and sixteen-year-old Jennifer Keaton is awake
Silently closing her bedroom door,
She walks out of her bedroom, and she is silently closing the door.
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more
She is leaving the note that she hoped her family will understand. She didn't want to be in another argument with Alex, Mallory, mom, and dad.
She goes downstairs to the kitchen clutching her handkerchief,
She quietly goes downstairs to the kitchen while clutching her handkerchief on her palm tightly—she is rather unsure if she must or must not leave home.
Quietly turning the backdoor key,
She is quietly turning the backdoor key after deciding that she must leave home for her own sake
Stepping outside she is free
She steps out of the house, and is finally free from the drama that she has with her family.
She (We gave her most of our lives)
Jennifer doesn't know that her parents (Elyse and Steven) give her almost everything in their lives
Is leaving (Sacrificed most of our lives)
She doesn't know that her parents sacrificed most of their lives to give her the things that she wants
Home (We gave her everything money could buy)
She doesn't know that they gave her everything that she wants and money could buy
She's leaving home after living alone for so many years
But she's leaving home after living in such a place where she is always stuck into an argument for so many years
Father snores as his wife gets in to her dressing gown,
Steven is still asleep as Elyse gets in to her dressing gown
Picks up the letter that's lying there,
Elyse walks out of the room, and saw a letter. She picks up the letter, and reads it.
Standing alone at the top of the stairs
The letter was standing at the top of the stairs
She breaks down and cries to her husband,
After reading the letter, Elyse runs to her bedroom, and cries until Steven wakes up from his sleep.
"What is it, Elyse?" he asks her with a worried look on his face.
"Daddy, our baby's gone!
"Oh! Steven! Our baby's gone! Jennifer is leaving home!"
"Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly?
"Why would so treat us so thoughtlessly?" asks Steven as he hugs Elyse tightly around his arms.
"How could she do this to me?"
"How can she do this to me, Steven?" she cries harder
She (We never thought of ourselves)
Steven and Elyse never think about themselves
Is leaving (Never a thought for ourselves)
Not even a single thought about them
Home (We struggled hard of our lives to get by)
They struggled hard of their lives to let things pass
She's leaving home after living alone for so many years
But Jennifer is leaving home after living in such a house where she is always stuck into bad arguments for so many years
Friday morning at nine o'clock she is far away,
It is Friday morning at nine o'clock, and she is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made,
She is waiting for the appointment she made a few days ago
Meeting a man from the motor trade
Which is meeting a relative from the motor trade
She (What did we do that was wrong?)
Alex asks in the living room, "What did we do that was wrong?"
Is having (We didn't know it was wrong)
"We didn't know that it was wrong, Alex," answers Mallory while knitting her scarf.
Fun (Fun is the one thing that money can't buy)
"I bet she is having fun right now," says Alex.
"But fun is one thing that money can't buy," says Mallory.
"Since when are you this wise?" questions Alex with a puzzled look on her face.
Something inside that was always denied for so many years
There is something inside that was always denied for so many years, but none of the Keatons know about
She's leaving home
But Jennifer had left home
Bye bye…
