"Why me? Why do *I* have to be a freak? Just look at these pointy ears! And my creepy eyes!"
"I love your ears! They're magical. And who wouldn't want deep forest green eyes? I think they're pretty!" said Paige, my best friend in the whole world. She knew who I was. She saw past my differences. No matter how much I wish to be completely normal, she always tries to convince me that pointed ears and creepy eyes beat normal any day. Too bad I can't believe her.
We walked out of the Mac's, each holding a jumbo slushy.
"I have to get home!" Paige said suddenly, checking her watch. "I'm gonna be late for piano!"
"But it's summer!" I protested.
She shrugged. "You know my mom." she said flatly.
I sighed. "Okay, I'll see you tomorrow!" I said. I had no idea how wrong I was.

It was hot out - really hot. I was headed to the park to do some light reading. The park was surprisingly empty. Weird. I sat down in the middle of the field.
"Summer Love" I read the cover of my book. It can't be too bad, can it? I opened it and turned to the first page. "Deep in a delightful word of love, their lived a most beautiful princess fairy." I slammed the book shut. "I'm *not* reading this!" I stated.
Staring at the sky, I tried to find shapes in the clouds. What I would do to have my Lord of the Rings books with me now. I sighed. My sighs quickly turned to yawns, and I was soon face flat, sleeping on the ground.

I woke up to what sounded like two swords clashing together. Looking up I was terrified to find that I was in the middle of a battle.
"What the?!" I yelled out. The people around me were dressed funny. Sorta like they were straight out of a movie. I calmed down a bit. No one seemed against me at all. They were all ignoring me. I watched them closely. Some of them were tall - taller than usual, with pointed ears and - "Elves!" I said. And there were men, and Orcs! "This is Lord of the Rings!" I said amazed. I suddenly noticed one of the elves looking at me funny. Then a few more did the same. One of them came up to me.
"Are you *supposed* to be here?" he asked.
"Uhhhh, I don't think so." I said stupidly. "Am I in Middle Earth?"
The elves and men - even the Orcs - started laughing. 'Kay, now I'm confused.
One of the elves wiped off hid face and ripped off his pointed ears. He even took his hair off. I didn't say anything. I just started to feel stupid.
"This is a re-enactment battle," He told me. "We're just fans of the Lord of the Rings acting out battle scenes for fun!" he chuckled.
Even I laughed this time. I mean, I thought I was *in* Middle Earth and about to have a blade of metal through my head. Hah. I'd better get home.
It was probably a funny scene to see: A girl dressed in clean modern clothes walking straight out of a messy army of historical fantasy people in the middle of a gruesome battle unharmed. Then, she trips.
