*THIS STORY HAS UNDERGONE MAJOR CHANGES*
I apologize to those of you who have already read and enjoyed the old version. I hope you like this one even better!
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Inuyasha, or any of it's characters. I am merely sharing my imagination with you.
Prologue
"Within this folder, you will find your schedule along with your locker number and lock combination. I also threw in a campus map to help you find your way around the school. I am positive that you will do just fine here, you seem to be a clever little lady. By the way, love your hair. It's so thick and glossy, I might just dye my hair and turn it as black as yours. Anyway, you may take your time to look around and visit your classes, and you start first thing next Monday morning. Your mother mentioned your unavailability for the rest of the week and I understand. Just remember, classes commence at seven thirty. Try your hardest to be on time. You know, I highly recommend an extra alarm clock, just to be on the safe side. Don't want any accidents, the number of tardy students increases per day. Also,"
I blinked at the wrinkled old woman who spoke rapidly. I just stared at her, trying to absorb every word she rushed out at me. She has lectured me a week's worth of info in just under eight minutes. I took in the old woman with my eyes once more. She wore traditional priestess garb, colored in white and bright red. Her outfit was outlandish; I mean it is traditional and that clothing is thought of highly, treated with the utmost respect. But the truth is nobody dressed that way these days save for a special occasions or Halloween!
The principle turned her back to me whilst rattling off the cafeteria rules. I gazed at strands of long, ashen, pin-straight hair pulled back with a simple white ribbon, yet a couple of strands hung around her head haphazardly. It was as if the woman didn't comb her hair in the morning.
She is very amiable and extremely helpful, but she is a little.. laughable. She is way over the top, but it's... nice. Usually, grown ups close to her age were seen pushing around walkers or popping their pain meds, keeping their sugar intake in check or minding their cholesterol. Arthritis. Cataracts. Lung Disease. You name it. Unfortunately, the majority weren't blessed with the health and eccentricity she displayed.
My thoughts were cut short when I heard my name being called several times. Blushing ferociously, I stammered an apology. "Oh darling, don't worry. It happens to everyone I ramble for too long to." The old woman patted my shoulder and gave me a compassionate smile that further crinkled her face.
I felt incredibly guilty. I shrunk into the vinyl chair as the she reached for the folder on her desk. She leaned forward and placed the cerulean file in my hands. As I glanced through it curiously, the old woman began to say, "Well sweetie there should be just about everything you need. If not, just let me know. Or not. Whatever makes you happy." The woman gave a chuckle, laughing at her own awkwardness. "I could find you someone to give you a tour, if you'd like. Or would you like to do it on your own? Personally, I would take the offer, but it is completely optional."
"Oh, yes please. I'd appreciate having someone to show me around," My eyes quickly shot to the name on her desk and tried to pronounce the bold letters spelled on it. "Thank you, Miss K-, Kay-,"
"Kaede, sweetie. Miss Kaede."
I felt my face turn bright pink, "I'm so sorry."
"Nonsense, stop with the apologies. It's perfectly fine. I know it's not a name that rolls off the tongue. Anyway, let me go find someone to show you around. Please take a seat out in the hall. Or stay here in my office, which ever!" Miss Kaede hollered over her shoulder as she slid down into her tall, shiny, desk chair.
Plucking up my bag from the empty seat to my left and gripping tightly the informative folder, I stepped out of the office, smiling to myself. I plopped down on the polished bench across the hall, observing the multitude of students shifting by.
A fiend called anxiety began to inch its way up my chest when I noticed their stares. Quite a number of them, really. Some kids glimpsed in an approachable manner, others curiously, several quite inappropriately. Some of them were brief, accompanied by secret chatter while others where long, calculative, and made me uncomfortable. I took a breath and shifted my eyes, mindlessly ogling my shoes.
Only when I straightened did I find myself caught in a gaze so peculiar, so unique, I almost forgot where I was and what I was doing. Two dark golden spheres, the color of swirling, decadent caramel, dappled with hints of bright copper, full of intrigue and mystery peered unblinkingly at me from down the hall.
I stared back at those stunning eyes, truly spellbound. About ten enchanting, unending, seconds burned by before those two orbs looked away. Right on cue, the horribly obnoxious chime of the school bell popped me down to Earth. The students were bustling into different rooms, clambering up and down stairwells, and slamming lockers shut, preparing themselves for their first class of the day.
My sights flew back to settle on the boy with the beautiful eyes, searching the rest of him. He was carelessly digging through his locker now, unaware of the emptying hall. I caught sight of his coarse, silver hair that curtained his profile from my assessment. It was long, possibly longer than mine and lustrous. How did I not notice? His hair is just as attractive as his eyes. I let my eyes dart down to his plain white sneakers, up his dark jeans, past his broad chest that sported a crimson t-shirt, to his immaculate hair, until I stopped at the adorable, small, pointed, ears on top of his head.
"Are those real?" I gasped quietly. A loud bang sounded as he shut his locker and then, he was facing me again. He crossed his thick arms in front of his chest, leaning his shoulder against his locker, and narrowed his pirate eyes. Anyone could have mistaken me for a mime as I froze, once again caught in his stare. Real smooth, Kagome. He definitely heard that.
"Hi!" a very perky voice chirped, making me jump and scatter all of the informative pages inside the folder Kaede handed me. "Sorry if I surprised you," the girl spoke while helping me to collect the sheets from the ground "I'm Sango." I peered into a cute, round face with beautiful, large, chocolate eyes and lengthy dark hair held up in a flawless pony tail. I shook her hand. "You're Kagome, right? Miss Kaede called me to help show you around today and well, here I am! What's your schedule like?"
We stood and I scanned through the chaos of loose papers in my hands for the pink sheet. I found it after scrambling back and forth for several seconds and read the order of my classes to Sango as calmly as I could. "Algebra II, World History, English II, then I have a study hall, Biology, and finally art class." I crumpled the edges of my schedule from the effort I put in to prevent myself from seeking out those glittering orbs again. I fought hard to forget them, something I knew I would regret later. 'I probably won't get to see him another time.'
I gave my attention to Sango when she spoke. "Sounds easy enough! Let's get started." Sango replied and tugged on my arm, leading me down the hallway. I grinned, momentarily distracted by my new acquaintance as we bounded around the corner.
"Kagome, I present to you, Shikon High!"
So I updated the new version of my story and totally forgot to add my prologue, accidentally making the content in chapter one the prologue. Smh, I am very sorry about that and I am currently working on fixing this. Hope you enjoy and sorry for my blunder!
Happy new year! :)
