JJ knocked on the door to Morgan's office.
"Come in," he called out. He looked up when she entered. "Hey."
"Hey, Morgan."
His gaze drifted to her visitor's badge. "Won't be long now before you can trade it in for your old SSA one. You know, we're all glad you're coming back."
"Yeah, my ears are still ringing from Garcia's screams when I told her." JJ laughed a little. Morgan grinned in response, but she could see a little sadness lingering in his eyes. And she felt a wave of guilt wash over her. She knew that sadness was because of Emily. That as far as he knew, she couldn't ever come back. And as necessary as it was, JJ couldn't help feeling bad that she couldn't at least let him and the others know that Prentiss was alive.
"Earth to JJ. " A hand waved in front of her face. "Where'd you go?" Morgan asked.
JJ blinked, realizing she had zoned out for a second. She ignored the question. Instead she moved on to the reason she had come. "I was wondering if we could schedule some refresher courses in hand to hand combat."
"That cushy State Department job got you rusty?"
"Yeah, a little." JJ wrinkled her nose. "I know working it around our schedules might be tough."
"Don't worry, we'll make the time. Just remember I'll be putting you through the paces," Morgan said. His voice took on a teasing tone.
"Oh, I remember. Thanks, Morgan."
"Any time."
After that, she left so he could get back to work. As she exited Quantico, she couldn't help but smile, because soon she'd be back.
*Author's Note* It always annoys me when people act like season seven was the first time JJ was in the field. Or that JJ became an agent when she became a profiler. It's not true. JJ wasn't just a secretary or PR person when she was a liaison and that gun she wore for 5 seasons wasn't for show. And although I loved her scene with Morgan in Closing Time, I don't like that I'm supposed to believe that it never occurred to JJ to learn how to defend herself in the field, despite being in the field on more than one occasion through the course of the series. So that's basically why I wrote a story saying JJ had already had instructions from Morgan earlier in the series.
