One of my first DC fanfics in a while, and the first on here. Enjoy!
The stormy dark sky was nothing new to the citizens of Gotham City. The rain fell down lightly, pattering down upon the many surfaces littering the gothic city. The streets were devoid of life, something that tended to be a common occurrence. The large crime waves the city often suffered and the many crazed supervillains kept many inside at this time of night, least they suffer a fate worse then death. But that had never stopped a brave few who would venture out at night. And one of those brave few, was on a mission.
The sound of sirens caught his ears as two Police cruisers rushed past him. The vehicles splashing water from the road onto him. He groaned in disappointment as he kept moving. He kept his amber eyes locked on the path ahead of him. His cloak covered most of his body as he turned down an alleyway. Walking along silently, he glanced to his right and left.
"What's an old man like you doing out at this time of night?" Someone said darkly. He smirked as he came to a stop. His hands moving within the folds of his cloak. "Old man is a title that I'd reserve for the future." He replied sharply. His voice carried a sense of danger with it. He could feel others move out of the shadows, friends of his perhaps? "Old man, young man. What difference does it make. You all go down the same in the end." Another said smugly. His grin grew larger as he calculated how he'd fight. He slowly rolled his right left fist while his right fist brushed over the hilt of his pistol. He smirked and raised his head slightly. "I don't go down as easily as you may think." He replied. He slowly separated his legs as his eyes narrowed. Standing ready, he counted six thugs and readied himself to launch into action.
"Hmm, you've got some fight in you. This'll make things interesting." Said another of the thugs. He shook his head as his grin left his face. He grabbed the side of his cloak and tore it from his body. Revealing a set of red armour plating that glimmered in the dim light. He slowly raised his pistol and licked his lips with anticipation. "You want a fight? You've got one." Before his foes had a chance to move, he'd leapt into the air, firing three shots, one at each of them.
The other three were quick to widen thier eyes . One of them grabbed their pistol and opened fire. The red figure smirked as he quickly leapt to a wall before leaping over the top of another figure. "You've got to do better then that if you want to keep up." He said as he dropped a knife down upon one the thugs.
With two thugs left, they quickly backed up against one another. "Man, I never thought I'd be saying this, but where're the police or the Bat when you need them?" The other thug shrugged his shoulders and glanced around. He suddenly felt a gust of wind and then, he felt nothing upon his back. He widen his eyes as he turned around and saw the body of his comrade. "Who...who ar...are y...y...you?" The thug asked with fear. The figure quickly leapt down and knocked the thugs weapon from his grasp. "The Crimson Avatar." He said before all went black for the thug. The man emerged from the alleyway in his cloak and continued down the street, whistling as he went along his business.
The day was bright as Batman entered the alleyway. Commissioner Gordon stood observing a team of detectives as they worked hard. "What've we got?" Batman asked. Gordon turned slightly as he pulled out a few bits of paper and a knife. "Some paper and a knife." He replied. Batman eyed the knife closely before he glanced at the bodies. "Thugs didn't last long against whoever attacked them." Gordon stated.
Batman glanced at the mangled bodies of the thugs. His eyes observing them closely. He quickly turned back to look at the piece of paper. "What're you thinking?" Gordon asked. Batman remained silent. "I need these items." Batman replied. Gordon nodded and handed them over. "While you're working on that, I'll have the GCPD weave out any potential suspects. Hopefully, with any luck, we'll have who did this behind bars in Arkham by the end of the week."
Batman nodded as he turned and moved towards the Batmobile. "Don't get your hopes up Commissioner. The killer's new in town." Gordon blinked and then glanced down at the mangle bodies. "How do you know?" He asked as he turned to face an empty street. "Why do I even bother?" He asked himself as he turned back to the crime scene.
