Re-write of Little Red Riding Hood

By: Lillian Eriinn Foster

Once upon a time…

We lay slightly off the path trying to sleep when we smell something fowl coming towards us spot on the trail. We stand up and stretch out our legs and angrily stepping up to the trail. There is a girl in a skimpy corset and mini skirt set wearing a small red cape, with a hood, standing at the fork in the road. She's holding a basket that's filling the forest with a very unappealing aroma. We step closer and tap her shoulder. She jumps and pulls away.

"Oh My God, you scared me wolf!" she yells angrily hitting our arm. We look at her like she's crazy and ask,

"What do you have in that basket of yours?"

"I don't think that's any of your business wolf!" she hollers.

"Sorry its just that it smells so, so," We make a questioning hand jester not knowing how to tell her it smells terrible, but she smiles and tells us,

"Its food for my Granny she's been sick and I wanted to help her get better."

I nod and circle around her to the split point in the fork in the road.

"So, do you know which way to go?" We ask politely.

"Well no. You should tell me which way it is." She snoods. We gawk at her,

'Who did she think she is, a princess?'

'Well it didn't matter who she was that was just rude. '

'Fine we'll tell her which way to go.'

We point to the left lying quite easily to the girl,

"Well to the left is the house where we wolves live," we point to the right now, " and to the right is a field of flowers." We scratch at our chin, "Maybe your granny would like some flowers. Might make her feel a little better." We suggest.

The girl nods not seeing through the lie.

"Yeah I guess that's not a terrible idea," she says walking to the right.

'She didn't even say "Thanks"'

'Well she was very rude'

'Yes, that's very true. Lets go eat the rest of her grandmother.'

"Oh and a warning to the wise sweetheart," we call out from our spot where we're standing, "Stay on the path at all times."

We smile and start walking back into the forest when there's a scream. The sad thing is it isn't a small girly scream, it's a scream of an angry man. We turn looking down the way the girl left down. There stood a man with an axe fighting off our hungry pack.

'How rude he shouldn't wave things at others'

'Should we teach him a lesson?'

'Well what kind of wolves would we be if we didn't?'

We smile and run up behind the big man snapping his neck and leaving him on the ground for our pack mates to eat. Then at the edge of the forest we see a red blur disappear between the trees. We smile,

'And her what about her lesson?'

'Well, she didn't follow directions.'

'Lets get her.'

We take off after the blur, chasing her back the way she came. She soon stopped running, panting for breath. We hang back letting her think she's won… for now. She catches her breath and quiet as she might starts to crawl to the path. We slowly follow her, only ten steps back. She's easily distracted tough and sees a pool of red on the ground in font of a house, her view blocked by a tree.

She moves towards the house. She passes the tree and sees where that the red pool is blood, more importantly her Granny's blood. When we left the sack of meat lying there we didn't hide her. She screams.

'There it is'

'Yes in the end they all scream'

We slink up to her and eat her as she silently screams eternally inside of us.

If you can't tell the wolf thinks of him/herself as two people. He believes that his good and bad self have found a way to "coexists" in his/her body without "killing" each other. The good side believes that everyone should be nice and respectful and the same should be given, but when someone goes against that rule then they get to deal with the "evil" side. The "evil" side tells lies and eats the flesh that goes against his will.
