AUTHOR'S NOTE

It makes me so happy that people are actually enjoying these fanfics :D Thank you to everyone who has written a review, followed or favourited. Once again, all characters are owned by the BBC :) This one is probably worse than the other two as it is 1:20am right now.

One nightmare.

One single nightmare was all it took for Madame Vastra to slip back into the hell of losing her beloved wife. She had died twice at Trenzalore and had been brought back, thank the Goddess, but the dark shadows in Vastra's mind came out to play at night and they just loved to give her a taster of what life would be like without her darling Jenny.

She's by her side, unable to speak, her breath catching in her throat. Jenny is lying as still as a statue on the floor, her expression blank and emotionless. She isn't breathing. Strax isn't there to save her - no electro cardio restart - just Vastra and Jenny, all alone. The words echo all around her:

Allaloneallaloneallaloneallaloneallalone...

The Silurian raises a scaled hand to her wife's ebony hair. She stroked it daintily, sounds of sorrow escaping her. Silurians don't cry, although sometimes Vastra wished they could. She's calling out softly for help, but no help will come. No help, not now. There's no Doctor, no Clara, no River and no Strax. Only her, Jenny and darkness.

"Jenny, please. Please please please..." Vastra repeated. It made her feel as though if she tried hard enough the little mammal's eyes will just snap open and all will be well. But that won't ever happen.

Vastra couldn't think of anything else to do, so she just led there next to her stone-cold wife, lifting her arm up and putting it around her. The reptile, so viscous and feared by many, curled up into a ball and howled. There was nothing left to do. Jenny was gone. Gone gone gone. She'll never come back.

"I want Jenny! I want my Jenny back! Please, someone, help me! Help her! Get her back and I'll do anything!" She's shouting out to nothing. It's no use. She just howls in sorrow, curling up next to icy Jenny - all life drained out of her, her eyes shut. She looks peaceful.

Then Vastra shoots up. The darkness is still there, but instead of lying on the ground, she's lying in her bed. Her fingers stretch out seeking Jenny's warmth, her eyes are shut.

She's there and she's warm and real. Her face is colourful. She's alive.

"Jenny! Jenny, wake up!" Vastra shook her darling.

"Huh? What is it? God, Vastra, it's still dark!" Jenny rubs her eyes and props herself up on an elbow, her vision still slightly blurred. All that can be heard is Vastra whimpering softly.

"I was at Trenzalore again. Just you and me - no Strax, no Doctor - no one to save you. I was alone in the dark and you were cold and-"

"Shhhh, it's alright. You're fine now. I'm fine. I'm right here. We're both safe and sound at home." Vastra was shaking, whimpering and clinging to Jenny. They were both swaying slightly, arms wrapped tightly around each other. This brave, noble warrior now seemed like a little dormouse, fragile and feeble.

"Come on, my darling lizard. Let's go back to sleep now. Shh, we'll be fine. I'm right here. I'm always right here." Jenny stroked the lizard's cheek and planted a kiss on her lips.

"I-I'm scared, Jenny. Is that alright? Is it alright that I'm scared?" Vastra was still shaking.

"We all get scared sometimes, but we have people to reassure us, to care for us. To keep the fear at bay. It's fine to be scared. You're being very brave, I promise you."

"I love you, my dear Jenny."

"I love you, too."

And with that, they both fell fast asleep, holding each other close, Vastra's face buried in Jenny's beautiful, silky hair.

They were okay.
