I lay in my bed, trying to sleep, but unable. Thoughts were pulling on my mind. I saw a spark outside my window and I looked out to see a brilliant flash of green and yellow. It blinded me. Then the sound came, it shook the earth and woke up everyone. I shook the shock off and leapt out of bed.
I rushed out of the house, not even changed out of my pajamas and I rushed towards the big hill, where I knew I saw it coming from. I ran, the cold of the night, brushing against me, sirens ringing in my ears. What was happening?
Then I saw it, a huge glowing rock, police and their cars, blocking many frightened families from getting near it. I only got a glimpse of it, but that image stayed in my head. It was huge, almost rounded, but the edges were broken, it glowed green and some parts were still on fire. The ground around it, scorched, and people seemed terrified of it. It was a meteor.
There were too many people to see much. I finally gave up and went home. I crawled back into bed, trying to forget. I finally fell into a dreamless sleep. I was woken again. I at first didn't recognize the sound. It sounded almost like a heavy banging on the door. I looked at my clock. Who could be calling at 3:00am? I stumbled out of bed and went downstairs.
I soon recognized that my mother and little sister Stacy were downstairs, almost fear on their faces.
"Answer the door. Who comes to our door at 3 am?"
I went over to the door and pulled it open, I found my obnoxious neighbor Pokey standing there, sweat covering his face and his long, greasy blonde hair sticking all over his bright red face.
"Pokey?!" I cried in shock, "What do you want?"
"I went up to see the meteor with my twin brother Picky, when he ran away. Now I can't find him! My parents said that we were supposed to look after eachother. If they knew I lost him…."
"I can't believe you lost him! No way I'm helping!"
"Pleeeeease!" he whined. I finally got extremely annoyed and gave in. He cheered and jumped around for a bit.
"You can go, but at least get out of your pajamas." My mom said.
I sighed and quickly rushed upstairs. I put on my striped blue shirt, jean shorts, and my lucky red cap. It wasn't the cap I'd always had, but I'd had it since last year when I traded my original one for this one.
I walked downstairs, and went over to my dog, Peach and woke her up. I intended to take her with me. I woke her up and she instantly followed. I knew she could be loyal, sometimes, if she wanted to be.
"Come on, let's go, and let's hurry."
"Wait, Nick, there's a baseball bat in my room, take it. I can tell something bad is going to happen. Use it."
I nodded my head and then ran upstairs and in Stacy's room I opened a box and pulled out a cracked baseball bat. I rushed downstairs, grabbed my dog peach, and I went out the door with Pokey. I ventured into the dark night, up the hill, not knowing what the night was really holding, not knowing what importance tonight really had.
