an eerie flame scorches the night
to a chorus of crashes and screams.
he stands at the gate, blue fire in his eyes,
and watches blue fire ravage his dreams;
a demon rips through his veins to his heart-
a demon lays claim to his flesh.
a moment, and he lies in blue light:
at the mercy of his hatred, a wretch.
a demon has slaughtered his family, he says,
a demon burned his home to the ground.
and so I will kill this demon, he says,
and his challenge echoes all around.
he raises his staff and rushes on,
his brothers as always at his side-
he lowers his staff and hears a laugh.
he cannot slay the devil with mere pride.
in the face of the demon, a single tear falls-
a low growl and his heart stops dead-
in the end, his words are nothing but air;
mocking laughter resounds in his head
yet another very happy poem written in a college application class, along with the Naruto poem I put up earlier. thanks to Athrna's suggestions, I ended up modifying this one with punctuation and stanza breaks, so that it isn't one giant blob of words. of course, the stanza breaks are completely uniform the way I have them, but that was the way I was thinking while writing the poem.
thank you to Teichan for preliminary proofreading.
any feedback will be greeted with great happiness and possibly excessive exuberance. all my thanks for reading!
