Duke Nukem stepped off the stone steps on to the concrete floor. The sound of his thick black army boots echoed all around him.

The large room ahead was all dark except for the miniscule amount of light filtering in from the top of the stairs. It, whatever it was, was down there somewhere and he was going to find it.

He took one last long puff from the stump of cigar that hung loosely from between his lips then threw the rest into the dark abyss ahead of him. The burning tip sparked once as it hit the floor and then dissolved into the blackness.

He followed it quietly, searching through the darkness ahead of him for any sign of movement. There was nothing. No sight but the darkness, no sound but silence, yet he knew it was nearby.

In only a few minutes the small light from the top of the stairs was gone and he was engulfed in darkness. Undaunted he continued to move forward. Then, off in the distance he spotted something. A small blue light permeated he din.

Being as quiet as possible Duke Nukem unholstered the pistols that were strapped to the side of each of his legs and pointed them at the light. He cocked back the hammer gently on each one preparing to strike.

Just then two smaller white lights lit up just above the blue followed by the echoing sound of an electronic voice.

"Exterminate!"

Almost before he knew what was happening a white bolt of energy came flying toward him. He ducked and rolled to one side narrowly avoiding certain death.

At the same time, he returned fire, rapidly squeezing off multiple rounds from each pistol. They found their mark with deadly accuracy but failed to impact on their target. Instead they seemed to explode prematurely casting small doses of light across the enemies bronze colored frame.

Again, a white bolt of energy came flying through the darkness just missing its target. Now the blue light was also coming closing.

"Projectile weapons detected." It called out. "Threat minimal. Daleks are supreme. Exterminate!"

Duke dodged yet another bolt and holstered his side arms.

"Thanks for the tip." He said, reaching behind his back and unhooking a grenade from his belt. He pulled the pin and tossed it right at the approaching blue light in the darkness. It exploded on target knocking the Dalek backward and for the first time showing its full appearance.

It shuddered for a moment, trying to regain its senses. The blue light in the eyestalk flickered and seemed to take an extra second to reacquire its target and fire again.

By then it was hit by a second grenade and again it shuddered and had to search for its target. When it found it, the human was right next to it.

It lashed out with its arm extension from one side and fired its weapon point blank from the other but its enemy was too quick.

Duke dodged away from the Dalek's weapons and rolled toward it's back. As he did he tossed a small magnetic disk onto the mechanized creature then fell and rolled forward.

"Magnetic device detected." The creature announced. "Demagnetizing frame."

Duke Nukem grinned maniacally as he pulled a small hand-held detonator out of his pocket.

"Too late." He gloated and pressed down on the button.

Instantly the device exploded sending pieces Dalek flying through the air.

Duke approached what was left of bottom portion of his now vanquished foe. He pulled out a new fresh cigar from his pocket and lit it from the now flaming husk of the Dalek. Then, turning his back on the mess and calmly walked away he proclaimed, "Hail to the king, baby."
