Ian believed they were best friends. They spent every day together, lived in the same house, worked together for a job, and knew everything about each other. Never once did Anthony ever tell Ian to change who he was, to be "this" or "that." All he had to do was be himself, and everything would be fine.
But he was wrong.
It took him a while to notice it, but then he realized that maybe they weren't really best friends anymore. They talked, still filmed videos for Smosh, and went about their usual lives. But there wasn't that usual content feeling, that everything was right. Ian didn't feel like both of them were truly on the same page sometimes, feeling the same thing in the moment like they used to.
He felt as though Anthony was… was belittling him. It hit him one day while he was at a party with Anthony. Anthony had brought along Kalel, his oh-so-amazing girlfriend, and ditched Ian for her. Ian didn't have a girlfriend currently – he ended it with Melanie just a few days ago, because they had lost their spark – and Anthony knew that very well. Yet, he still chose to go with his girlfriend into some corner and do whatever he wanted.
Ian leaned against the wall, watching the party-goers drink and grind with each other. He began to think that Anthony wasn't who Ian thought he was. He acted like he was so perfect: hot, funny, cocky, and flirty. He acted like the dominant one in their partnership, and it pissed Ian off.
He couldn't measure up to Anthony, or so he believed. He couldn't be as funny or handsome as his best friend, and he knew it. He was messed up; not in a bad way, but he wasn't normal, or whatever was considered normal.
Kalel was annoying, and clingy, but she was perfect according to Anthony. And Ian realized that he was losing himself to her – he was Anthony to him. She was hot, apparently smart (Ian's not so sure he believed this), funny (or so she thought), and popular on Youtube. What more could Anthony want? Certainly not Ian.
Wait, did he want Anthony to want him; as a best friend, of course, and definitely not something more. It didn't matter, Anthony wouldn't pay much attention to him anymore, much less love him in any way, shape or form.
He decided he was done with Anthony, done with his arrogant attitude, and his stupid girlfriend. If Ian wasn't worth his time, then he wasn't worth Ian's .
"Hey Ian, Kalel had to leave so you ready to go?" Anthony said, appearing next to him.
"Actually, I'm going somewhere with some of the guys here, sorry."
He couldn't control himself. He was angry, frustrated, and confused at the same time. The first thing that came to his mind that would hurt Anthony would be ditching him. He knew he was successful when Anthony's face fell and he looked as though someone kicked his puppy.
"Oh, I see," Anthony said. Ian knew that he realized he wasn't invited.
"Yep, so I'll see you around," Ian said before pushing on the wall and walking into the party.
He didn't say later, because he wasn't coming back.
